I'd also like to add that I try to download responsibly. I mean, most of the items I download are (hard-to-find) jpop, and I already have purchased the ones I could find on Amazon. I should be able to know if it's a gem or crap first. 30 second DRM-ed previews suck. I should be able to listen to it wherever for a few days before I cash out.
The #1 reason why people don't buy Linux CDs is because they download it. If they download it, try it, and therefore don't buy it, I think that says enough.
Not about the OS, but about file downloading. Or both.

Re: Survey: Do you use file sharing?
1. What level of School are you in (Jr. High, High School, College)?
Senior in high school
2. For file sharing, do you use the schools network, a home connection (and is it a modem, cable, DSL?), or both?
28.8k dialup modem, do you think I would do filesharing??? (cable in september)
3. What type of files do you generally share (songs, videos, programs)? Are they popular or rare and hard to find?
I don't share, it kills my bandwidth and I wouldn't be able to play games or post here otherwise...
4. How much do you download (file size)?
On average, appx 2-4 mb
5. Are you aware of the possible consequences of illegal file sharing (fines, jail time)?
I dun care, I don't download that much...
6. Are you afraid of lefal action being taken against you or your school?
Against me, yes, against my school, probably not
7. Would you be willing to pay a set amount for limited legal file sharing? Why or why not? And if yes, what is a reasonable amount to pay for songs? (for example $10 for 20?)
I agree with TokyoU15, it should only depend on how much it would cost if you bought the CD...
There's my 2 cents, yes it is 3 am and I am thinking straight. I download download much anyways... If I hear a song on the radio I like, I download it and if I like it, I might buy the CD, or I might get another song and see if it's any good, but 3-5 songs is my limit... I don't have much cash right now, but after I get a job I'll have some and can legally buy the stuff. Plus, I'm only 16 and if the RIAA did anything to me now, they'd scar me for life and I probably wouldn't be able to recover from it, whether it be money or jailtime...
This is getting out of hand, but I guess that this had to come due to the fact that people share music and pirate so much stuff...

2. Home connection, DSL.
3. Songs, sometimes I d'ld epi's, but only if I haven't seen them.
4. No clue(a few days back my music folder was completely wiped out

5. Yes, and as of late I haven't been able to recover any of my mp3's because of the threats.
6. Yes, I really don't need a 200-1000$ fine.
7. Well maybe, I don't like the idea of paying for each song, but buying a whole freaking cd when I only like one song is stupid maybe like... every 5 songs, or 10 songs. I like that 79 cents thing they have going now, I could convince my parents to try that.
