Damnit, I posted this in the wrong topic.

Here's a repost in the RIGHT topic.
Everybody knows that sound that is digitally put through a speaker for your listening pleasure is really worth 750-15,000 dollars per song if you have it on your computer.

I mean, of COURSE you deserve to have your cash funds fucked in the ear by the RIAA. They just aren't making enough money for the repeated garbage that is filling the airwaves!

Kudos to you, hard working musicians of the world, who oh so flawlessly produce the exact same song and expect the public to pay to listen to it!

But seriously, I don't use file sharing.

Hey, I'm taking a survey of people who share files over the internet. I was hoping I could get some of you to answer a few questions for me.
NO! NEVER!! You'll only turn me in...aaahh what the hell.
1. What level of School are you in (Jr. High, High School, College)?
Not in school.
2. For file sharing, do you use the schools network, a home connection (and is it a modem, cable, DSL?), or both?
Home - DSL connection
3. What type of files do you generally share (songs, videos, programs)? Are they popular or rare and hard to find?
songs, videos and on very rare occasions, programs. Some are pop. and some are rare.
4. How much do you download (file size)?
In a day? at least 500MB
5. Are you aware of the possible consequences of illegal file sharing (fines, jail time)?
No....yes....no...yes....maybe.
6. Are you afraid of lefal action being taken against you or your school?
Not really.
7. Would you be willing to pay a set amount for limited legal file sharing? Why or why not? And if yes, what is a reasonable amount to pay for songs? (for example $10 for 20?)
I use to pay for it. I was part of Audiogalaxy's new way of file sharing...it was pretty cool, but no big selection. Yes I would pay for a legal file sharing service, but only if they have a GOOD BIG selection of ALL TYPES of music and hard to find rare videos. 10 cents a song sounds reasonable.

- In order of decreasing quantity Songs, videos and programs. And it's a bit of a mix. 98% of "my" video files are anime.

Well I just graduated high school and I do get music from the net. I do know the consequences. And I recently bought over $100 worth of CDs, all music I've discovered because of file sharing.

I download an average of about 4 songs a week, never more than 6 songs from any artist. :?

jonmartensen wrote:1. What level of School are you in (Jr. High, High School, College)?
None.
2. For file sharing, do you use the schools network, a home connection (and is it a modem, cable, DSL?), or both?
T1 connection at home (yeah, I have a T1 to my house).
3. What type of files do you generally share (songs, videos, programs)? Are they popular or rare and hard to find?
Tarballs, .deb's, some oggs. A lot of HTML, too. Generally all hard to find.
4. How much do you download (file size)?
According to my MRTG charts, about 1gig/day.
5. Are you aware of the possible consequences of illegal file sharing (fines, jail time)?
Yes. Don't do much illegal file sharing, though. Almost all of the stuff I upload is my own; most of the stuff I download is authorized. Used to do a lot more when AudioGalaxy was around.
6. Are you afraid of lefal action being taken against you or your school?
No. See above; most all of it is perfectly legal.
7. Would you be willing to pay a set amount for limited legal file sharing? Why or why not? And if yes, what is a reasonable amount to pay for songs? (for example $10 for 20?)
I'd be willing, provided that the restrictions are reasonable (e.g., no "can only play on one computer, provided that machine runs Windows" DRM crap). $20-$25 or so per month would be reasonable, provided there was a wide selection of music, especially the less popular stuff. If there was a very good selection, I'd be willing to pay more.
