Is it just me, or is it that everyone and anyone is trying to make lots of money now?
It looks like Divx (no more wink or info on the old DivX) has a corporate page with fancy diagrams, products that cost money, and all sorts of industry strangleholds now (DivX is, of course, a proprietary format). Typical corporation. If it weren't for XviD, it'd be a DivX monopoly.
And get this - DivX (aka DivsuX) now *SUCKS*. Not only has development slowed, there's not DRM (Deluxe Reaming Mechanism) in the DivSucks player. DRM could mean only one thing - Dumb Retarded Morons.
The installer even adds a "Try Dr Divx for FREE!" shortcut on your desktop without asking - like AOHELL.
Sure, Microsoft is a even bigger megaconglomerate with a even more proprietary standard, measured by number of patents. But they are developer and consumer freindly and include flexibility such as the options to disable "Acquire licenses automatically for protected content", etc. DivX player is rumoured by some to send serial numbers for "fingerpinting" content.
It's times like these I actually agree with GPL and Open Source.
JUST SAY NO TO DRM
DivX ;-) Is Now A Stupid Corporate MegaConglomerate.

OpenDivX and Project Mayo was a good idea.
