Dreamworks Bombs!! (Katzenberg cries)

Post by rubyeye » Tue Jul 22, 2003 2:48 pm

AnimeNation's little news blurb about Dreamwork's failure with Sinbad has Jeffrey Katzenberg bitchin' about how 2D animation is obsolete in a tone which seems to blame more on the art form rather than their impotence at developing any kind of creative/original story. And that fact that they spent $70 million is more of an insult than a joke.

Sounds like they never heard about this thing called ANIME which the Japanese have perfected. Sure they may be using computers now but they are still done by hand (2D) and God is it GORGEOUS!!! I don't mean just the look but the pletora of stories/genres and ideas - creative and intelligent. Lightyears superior to anything America has (ever) done (yet).

He goes on to speculate that traditional story telling in "traditional" animation form is a thing of the past. Give Me a Break!!! I've never been impressed with 3D animation entirely, it's often sterile of the kind of graphic quality 2D offers. Not to mention the "human" touch you can achieve through various designs and colors.

Let's hear it for ANIME!!!!!

Sounds like Jeffrey Katzenberg needs to get some creativity and good writing.

Seriously, I'm really fucking tired of reading people going on about how much better Japanese (Everything) is better than American (Anything).

The movie bombed because people don't want to see a movie about a pirate going into the netherworld unless it's live action.

Roke, you're missing the point. It's that the movie bombed and they're blaming it on the fact that it was 2D animation, which is not the case.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I got the point, damnit. I was just both complaining about what I've been reading, and then explaining about why the movie bombed.

Eh, you're probably right about the uberpraise over Anime, but there is no denying the quality and skill (given their limited buget) compared to American film making, er um, animation. What the hell were they spending all that money on?
