music tastes

When listening to music there are certain sounds that excite me and the enhance the listening experience. I will share some of them with you. . .now.

no more than 5 seconds of a 120+ boom tiss intro, lest you become hypnotised instead of drawn in.
when an electric guitar is played with an overdrive so smooth it sounds close to a sawtooth/square wave.
when a piano chord strikes from the gullet of a fullsized piano, a chord so rich with personality you feel it for the entire bar.
The dry bite of a piccolo snare or even a marching snare, that insane midrange hit that rubs your upper chest.
the rain-like drag of a brushed snare, adding lilt to a passage.
when a piano plays as a solo and needs no other instrument to sound like a full band.
The visual effect of a good chord progression in an arppegiator, rolling through a song.
The throaty rumble of a female soul singer.
The fret noise made by the carfule handling of an acoustic guitar, like a perscussive scratch egging the melody along.
the heavy punch of a backbeat in 4/4, demanding energy from the listener.
the sheer arrogance of the tone of an alto, or even a tenor sax
the easy street stroke of a clarinet.
The wild raucus scraping brass hits of the swing bands.
The expectancy of rhythm when -any- song isn't played in 4/4 time.
when a hammond with a rotary lays down some bars, making you think of driving at night
the rich, home grown tone of a 4 part male harmony.
anyone who can slap bass worth a %@^%
anthem-like opening chords that just make you sit up straighter when you hear them, no matter what instrument plays them.
when a lyric serves to tell you a story impossibly rich for the handful of words they just told it with.

Mine would have to be when the Violins kick in...and you feels like shitting your pants.
Or when the song starts off in a simple chord progression through the standard major chords, with only the occasional minor at the end of a phrase or verse...and then the song builds into a screaming chorus and the guitars rip full distortion.
Or maybe when your in the right mood...and the song connects without you knowing it...and it sends you into a subliminal state...like a trance.
Or when the harmony kicks in at a major 13th above, or even a major 3rd above the lead...and is sends chills down your spines.
Or maybe even a song that can connect two people...mine being "Fly Me To The Moon." "Pachebel - Canon in D Major" and "Koom Susser Tod" (Note: All from Eva) Especially when you can play them whenever you want to on piano

But yeah...the violins really do it for me. Especially in this song.

"Finished Symphony" by Hybrid...check it out...and shit thine pantalones!!

-most riffs in 5/7
-simple, sustained guitar lines played with occasional/unexpected effects (wah/phase/etc.)
-guitarist going from a measured riff into a wailing solo, kicking in tube screamers to boot, throwing me off guard completely

-low bass riffs in odd meter
-really high notes played with a slide
-2 distorted mellotrons pulling in different directions
-creative use of tritone
-electric violin in overdrive
-funk guitar solos with that wah-wah thing

-in orchestra - string section quietly creeping out of the silence
-soundscape/Frippertronics guitar. Actually, anything played by Robert Fripp. Enogh said

hmm... that'd be interesting. Haven't heard anything like that - suppose that could be possible, though depends when. There are overdriven electric violinists from all the way back in at least the late 60's. If that's when you've heard it being from - yea, gotta be it.

Yeah, i'd have to agree, i also hate gay people and their inappropriate lifestyles.
