VicBond007 DVDs/CDs at Otakon

Post by VicBond007 » Sat Jul 12, 2003 3:21 pm

The time is nearing oh too quickly. Otakon is upon us, and that means I have to start thinking about producing the next batch of DVDs. Who's up for one? Mind you, these are the same DVDs as I had at Katsucon, so the videos only go up to Cowboy Bebop 007. My Otakon AMV and my Otakon parody video will be available for free on CD-R and will be the exact same copies as are/will be, available on my website.

All the info you'd ever want to know is available at http://vicbond007.kaytwo.com/main.html

Just click on "DVD ordering info". Obviously, since they will be at the con, the shipping info doesn't apply. Email me or post something on this thread if you want one because I'd really hate to run off 50 and be stuck with 40 of them at the end of the weekend ;)

This is not a committment, this is just a "who's interested" post, so don't worry, you're not "placing an order" (you can do that at my site ^.~)

What if I just want the DVD and not all the extra stuff like the clamshell case and professionally printed sleeve?

Sorry EC, but at this time I am only distributing it with all the bells and whistles, for the same reason that a lot of music artists are against the sale of their music online. I look at the DVD as an album of my work, that is, not only the videos on it, but the way that it's authored, and the way that it's packaged. All of the elements together form a complete element that is, in a sense, an extension of myself. By professionally packaging it, it also helps see to it that the DVD finds a place on a shelf as part of someone else's collection, and not as another blank disc to shove under the table to keep it from wobbling.

Yes, but wouldn't you rather have a DVD+R as a glass coaster rather than a DVD-R?

So long as it has DVD on it, I'm satisfied.

Hmmm, by the way, Vic, you might want to update your website for accuracy...

A: The DVDs are burnt onto DVD+R for maximum compatibility, and these discs are considerably more expensive than the more popular, but less compatible DVD-R format. The discs are packaged in a DVD clamshell case, and the cover is full color and professionally printed. The DVD itself is labeled with a self-printed full color label.
dvdrhelp.com says that currently, more standalone players are DVD-R compatible (90%) than DVD+R compatible (85%). Go to this link to see if your particular player can play a certain format, folks.

And lately, the prices for DVD+R and DVD-R blank media is the same. DVD+Rs do have a faster burning speed though.

Excellent post. I'll try to address those questions.

My compatibilty tests are based on my own personal tests, not a website's. While they may have a more comprehensive database of what player plays what, I'm fairly certain some of those entries might be based on what the DVD player's manual says rather than what the player actually supports, and so I can only go by my testing, in which I brought a -R and a +R to The Wiz and loaded it into every player they had on display (Ask permission first!).

The cost of the disc has gone down. This is true, however the price reflects the large stock of discs that I purchased back when DVD+R was $3/disc bulk, since I'm still using those discs. Once the stock depletes, the price of the disc will probably remain the same as I'm looking into thermal retrasfer printing for the disc label.

Burning speed: My burner is 2.4x, and last time I checked, both + and - had 4x discs available, assuming you have the megabucks to shell out for a burner to do that ^_^
