Hellsing Live Action Movie?

I heard this from my roomie in an e-mail (we're not rommates now, but we were last year and will be this next year). Apparently, a live action Hellsing movie is in the making featuring Hugh Jackman as Alucard.

I am not a big Hellsing fan, but I may see this for the eye-candy if nothing else. Anyone else know anything about it? And don't refer me to Anime News Network, I already tried them.

Wrong. Kinda.

It is called "Van Helsing"
And has Hugh Jackman playing Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's Dracula novel.

In the movie, Van Helsing fights Vampires, Werewolves, Frankstein and other classic monsters.

Indeed he is bad ass. Im looking foward to it just from looking at the images and the genereal plot. The only thing that has me worried is it is being directed by the same guy who made "the mummy" and "The Mummy Returns". If it comes out the way it should, it should be pretty cool.

To clarify on the Hellsing/Helsing issue...

It all started with Bram Stoker. He wrote a great novel named "Dracula" which very much so popularized the vampire legends. In this novel, there was a famous vampire hunter named Van Helsing. (There were also other memorable character, including ones in other upcoming feature films, but that's for another thread.)

So, when Hellsing's writer decided to get started on a vampire-based manga, he drew a lot of inspiration from this work, including names (Alucard, Hellsing, etc).

And again when some Hollywood execs got in a room to discuss the next blockbuster, they decided that drawing on the same background mythos might be a good idea. Hence, Van Helsing the movie was born.

ummmm, we already knew that. This has been talked about before although thx for the recap for those just joining us.

Whewww. Thank the lord. Jackman is a great actor, but he is not the one I'd pick to play Alucard if he even was. Anyway, it is pure idiocracy to make a live-action movie based on an anime. Anime is Anime and it should never be mixed with anything else.
