Suppose I appreciate the community for its' noble goal and how well it has been accomplished so far.

I also appreciate the people who make good videos, readily discuss them, the people who go out of their way to give you advice, or just to engage in a good, healthy discussion/argument.

However, as in any social situation, I must acknowledge that the vast majority remain largely indifferent, some even hostile. I don't care for them any more than they do for me, but should they approach me or my work - I'll readily change my stance.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

That's some gold there beo! 8)

Omni, I try not to concern myself with the community as a whole persay. It's completely out of control as most creative outlets are. From this chaos there are some wonderful creations, whether we all agree they are or not. I try to avoid the preachers and people who complain about linkinballz etc...

... but overall I guess I do care about the community as there are great people behind it all. (well I hope :P)

I care about this place as a community because it is the best one of its kind and it is one of my favourite hobbies (despite the fact that I have been unable to dedicate any time to it for the last year). I really gotta start coming back here regularly.
LBZ, yes, it can be done well.
N00bs, everybody's been one, although some just don't have the right attitude.
I think the community just experiences turbulence like anything else.

[back on-topic] It doesn't seem to me that anything in the AMV community really makes a difference. Sure, it's always nice to hear "hey, your videos are cool", "I really like your vids", "piano keys rock", or "But he did not", but as far as events actually meaning anything to me -- "meh" is all I have to say. AMVs are a subculture of a subculture that is gradually growing out of another subculture (AMV <- anime <- geekdom, at least in the U.S.), and it just doesn't seem worth it to stress out over what people think of what you do in something so insignificant :-P

Now, that doesn't have anything to do with the amount of effort and vision you bring to a video project...you don't have to care about others' opinions, but that doesn't mean you can't invest insane amounts of time and money into something. Just to clarify the distinction for anyone who might jump on me for that.

And dwchang will kill me if he reads this. Oh well.

Then again, I agree with your other statements so maybe I'll just warn you to oblivion instead. I think I've said something similar that we're already a subculture of a subculture and there's *maybe* a couple thousand of us in the entire United States. I don't think that's worth worrying about or worth multiple threads.

As he said...what people think of what you do is something so insignificant. Sure it can feel great, but it doesn't define you or even your video and how *you* feel about it (or did when you made it). So yeah...I'm just saying the same things MJ, Fluxy and Trythil just said, but...well...it's all true (and the main reason is I wanted to reply to the other comment he made...so fjucking dead).
