Master Keaton

Post by EarthCurrent » Tue Jul 01, 2003 12:44 am

Master Keaton has long been a fav of mine, and I was happy to finally get my mits on the domestic DVD.

He travels around the world, rattles on about history, is a survival specialist, uses an atlatl to help win a fight. This series has everything a happy go luck geography guy like me enjoys.

But, sadly, I am probably all alone in my love, 'cause everyone else here likes DBZ... :(

ah the normal anime length. some series really make a good promise then they destroy it. so sad about animes these days.

Keaton hangs on throughout. It's pretty episodic...so it doesn't try to worry about building to a big finsih.

Keaton is divorced and works for Loyde's of London as an Insurance investigator. He is also a former survival instructor for the British SAS (meaning he knows his stuff). He also loves history, and and also works as a history professor in Japan. He's Half Japanese. Anywho, he gets sent out by Loyde's to investigate insurance claims all over the world and this gets him invovled in all sorts of adventures.

He also has an estranged daughter from an early failed marriage, and as the series progresses it starts building on Keaton's family and how he has failed and succeeded as a father. Good stuff.

Keaton seems to be modeled more after Indiana Jones...clumsy professor at home, etc...but get him out in the field and he is a pretty no nonsense kinda guy. However, this isn't really an action orient AMV. Keaton doesn't carry a gun or a bullwhip. He's just a Japanese salaryman who happens to been one of the best survival experts produced by Britain's special forces. There's an early episode where he is trying to help a young girl get back to her mother after he helps her run away from her grandmother. The setup managed to create some great dialogue as Keaton and the girl as the two of them travel across France and Italy. It's a pretty cute episode.
