[AV] ChOjIn 69 can you tell me more about Barefoot Gen, I haven't heard of it before. EVA definately not, I personally think its over hyped and I agree the ending was horrible.
Barefoot Gen is basically "Grave of the Fireflies" with different charcters, same theme tho (horrors of war and nuclear weapons).

As far as anything Studio Ghibli comes up with, I would have to agree with el_farlo that pretty much all of them are very good as introductory animes, for audiences of all ages: very watchable, none of the fanservice that Omni is so fond of, very pg-13 is with a good amount of plot and sub-text. As far as your teacher is concerned, however, I think you should lean more towards Naussica, Mononoke, and Spirited Away. I personally dont think he would enjoy some of the more kiddish Ghibli releases like "Kiki's Delivery Service" or "My Neighbor Totoro." You could try the "Ghost in the Shell" Movie, since it is very plot driven, although I'm not entirely sure what his stance on nudity is, since there is plenty of it in the movie. An equally good alternative would be "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" which is the TV series based in the same universe as the movie. The great thing about it is that there is no 1) blatant nudity, just some random fan service 2) each episode, with the exception of a few all well, "stand alone" meaning that you could just show him a random ep. and he wouldnt really be all that lost, even if he never saw the movie before. The only problem is that the series is only airing in Japan currently and the only one can get their hands on it is to d/l it from the net in Digi-sub form. This may actually present a bit of a problem for you in terms of showing it to him and actually obtaining the episodes.

I think Grave of the Fireflies and Spirited Away are either heavy, too weird or too long.

I'd pick Ruruoni Kenshin OAV1 if he doesn't mind violence. But otherwise...

How the hell can you people say the ending to EVA was horrible? That was the best, most ingenius, most brilliant, most thought provoking ending in all of Anime. That is why it is sometimes considered the BEST Anime of all time. Have yo even seen the ending, or did it not make sense to you?

Anyway back on topic I would not suggest EVA as it is far to violent. I would suggest Spirited Away that is good, a little childish, but good. Also perhaps X. There are alot others, but many others have already suggested them so thats it.
The size limit of sigs is 4 lines of text, and mine was WAY bigger than that.

My Chem. teacher asked me almost the same thing(except he didn't care about the violence). Since he has this thing about vampire and werewolf movies, I suggested Hellsing and/or Bloodlust. He rented Hellsing and said it was great.
