Am I a Jerk? [in regards to yaoi]

I just lost 2 so called friends online because I said that Yaoi anime is bad. Now some of the stories are good but I cant bring myself to watching them. I told them when it comes to anime im a Huge Homophobe on most of the stuff that I watch. I did not say that I had anyproblem with actual Gay people male or female (as some of you may know, I've told most about my gay sister on my many of my posts) I just dont bring myself to watching them when it's about 2 guys in love! I have no problem with girls in love but I just cant stand it with guys. I dont mind the gauness being in a comedy bit or something like that (Take magic users club for instance,Aiyoji loves Takakura but he keeps avoiding him each time...I find that funny) But since I cant seem to watch the gay acts in anime im just a closed minded bastard. Whats with people I dont hate gay people I just dont feel like I should be buying Fake or Queer As Folk in my mortal life time. I think these people are acting too damn emotional

Frankly, I think your friends are being a little odd. I can't bring myself to watch it either, and if people start bugging me about it, I'll tell them to get lost. Honestly, I find it a real turn-off myself, and nothing is gonna change that.

However... if you suddenly told your friends that it sucks and they shouldn't watch it or something, that's a different story.

First, don't generalize. When you say Yaoi anime is bad, it is not ALL bad. Just because you do not want to watch it does not mean that it is ALL bad or that nobody else wants to watch it either. If you want people to respect your opinion then respect thiers. If you tell them your opinion and they don't respect you then they are the jerk. There is a lot of anime out there some girl/girl anime that I will NOT watch, but I will not generalize ALL of it because I do find some of them quite good.
It depends on your attitude as to the question of you being a jerk or not. Im not telling you to like it, just avoid it, by all means if you don't like it, but don't berate it.

I also don't like artichoke, though I keep getting told it depends on the dish. Look, I've eaten enough artichoke dishes to know that I don't like it, period. So stop trying to serve it to me!

Really hard to say, since I don't know how the conversation went.

Certain terms used in conversation can cut more if you're careless in their use.

If you talked about being "homophobic" when it comes to yaoi, even if you meant the term as a joke, you may have set up a more confrontational position than you realized.

Again... the people may have just faced so much homophobic static in their lives that they just instantly assume worse things from you than what you actually said.

They would certainly be in the wrong if they said they wouldn't be friends with you if you didn't watch the titles they liked, because they should be considerate of the fact that you don't want to watch them.

If these people are your friends, I think you should ask them what they are actually mad about and see if there is a way of patching things up.

Again... I have no idea what the situation is... so I'm just trying to guess at the best course of action.
