How do I share AMVs over 100MB in a-m-v.org??

Post by Lavondyss » Mon Jun 23, 2003 2:13 am

I probably already know the answer to this one, "Sorry bro, you're screwed." But I'm gonna ask anyways. One can hope. :P

I have an AMV that is high quality and it's over 100MB (116MB to be exact). AVI format.

series: Read Or Die - Episode 01
music: Juno Reactor - Conga Madness (The Animatrix Mix)

It's my very first AMV and have not prior experiences in editing any of this stuff, so nothing is really timed, gomen! BUT, I've got some very good feedbacks and would like to present it to a larger audience. I even have requests to make more of them. I've plan to make two more AMVs, for each of the last two episodes, 02 & 03 of ROD.

My current method is posting on newsgroups (FREE):
alt.binaries.anime
alt.binaries.multimedia.anime
alt.binaries.multimedia.anime.repost

I'd use Direct Connect to distribute, but that just eats up my bandwidth like the Hamburgler eats burgers. My PC locks up sometimes from that kind of stress. That's why I stopped using it.

I'm trying to get my local University anime society to show it at the weekly "anime night".

Thanks for hearing me out.

One question. Have you compressed your audio? Both the Mission: Improbable projects are over 10 minutes long, and are at 512x384 resolution, and theyre both rougly 100 megs apiece. Try compressing your audio or reducing your resolution.

Adding onto what Danny said: Either that's a really high bitrate with uncompressed audio, or it's a really long song X_x I plan on making a vid to Weird Al's Albuquerque (sp?) song this summer and that's gonna be a really large project, but do-able... Here's a tip: use WAV for editing, then export with no audio, then add in the MP3 file in whatever prog you wanna use to distro MPEG or AVI, or just simply import both WAV and MP3, then when done editing, get rid of the WAV, add the MP3 to the audio timeline, do a final render, and it should be ready to go... Or if you're lazy like I was for my first AMV, edit using the MP3 file...

bitrate down

Post by Lavondyss » Mon Jun 23, 2003 1:11 pm

I lowered the bitrate from 900 to 460 and it seemed to work. The video quality is crappy now, but tolerable.

The filesize is now 99.9MB (104,818,688 bytes). I'm not sure how the FTP server will calculate that. I'm uploading the file now.

99.9MB file, successful

Post by Lavondyss » Mon Jun 23, 2003 2:05 pm

Just a FYI

I've successfully uploaded the file. Apparently, the FTP servers do calculate the 99.9MB and not by bytes.

I hope everyone enjoys it.

If anyone, for some inexplicable reason, want the HIGH QUALITY version (116MB), let me know and I'll see what I can do.

That is still a huge file size for a video whose quallity is "crappy"

1. What method of compression are you using?
2. Did you compress the audio?
3. How long is it?
4. What is the resolution?

I am on a modem, so it will probably be faster to just ask you that, than to download your video and see for myself

file info

Post by Lavondyss » Mon Jun 23, 2003 4:57 pm

1. What method of compression are you using?
divx 3.11 alpha. I think.

2. Did you compress the audio?
good question, I do not believe so, I'll see if I can do that.
audio was in .WAV format because I used Virtual Dub to synch the audio with the video. V-Dub required that I use .wav files. I'll see if I can use another program in the future. Another method I thought about was lowering the bitrate on the .wav. I'm sure that will reduce the filesize significantly.

3. How long is it?
7Mins 28seconds

4. What is the resolution?
480X360

Well, there's the problem...

Enable "Full processing mode" and then you should be able to select which audio compression codec you want to use.

fuck, I previewed and both of you beat me to it

:/
uncompressed wav = 1411 kbps
that's 10.3 megabytes a minute
download the lame acm off of www.doom9.org . Open the original 900 kbps video in virtual dub and check 'fast recompress' for video and select "Full processing mode" for audio. Go to Audio>Compression and select Lame MP3, and something like 192 kbps 44100hz.
Save as avi.
