downloading anime
I was just wondering if it is legal or illegal to download animes and use them in your videos. I just came across a new site www.sharereactor.com and i was thinking about making some vids. I just bought adobe premiere, now all i need is the anime. I just don't wana go to jail for piracy. Thanks in advance.

as long as the anime is an unlicensed fansub, it's legal. so it's also legal to make amvs of fansubs. when the anime is licensed, it's illegal to download the anime, but i dunno if it's illegal to make amvs of this.
here is another thread, where the legality of amvs is discussed:

No.
I think you are confusing illegal and immoral. It is illegal (i.e. copyright infringement) to download anime off the net that you havent bought (licensed or not). It is illegal to make music videos to them.
Fansubs are, arguably, 'less' immoral as they are not for profit and do not (in theory) reduce any sales of an english language product. that doesnt make them in any way less like copyright infringement.
If you want to follow the letter of the law, you can't make music videos for anyone but yourself.

Not entirely true. You can make music videos for family and friends as well. That's covered under "fair use". You just can't show them to the general public without breaking copywrite laws.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:JCD wrote:If you want to follow the letter of the law, you can't make music videos for anyone but yourself.
