anime, and short seires

Post by CaTaClYsM » Sat Aug 10, 2002 9:09 pm

why is is that many of the popular animes are so short, I would think that if CB and trigun and escaflowne and Eva were any good they would have more than 30 eps.

Most anime has a set story, so they show it and it's over. If they started milking the life out of every series anime wouldn't be any better then Teletubbies. :p

dragon ball z proved that, but wouldnt that mean that trigun bebop eva and escaflowne were mini-seriese and not seriese because of the set storyline?

They really aren't that short. Most anime series are 26 eps. (to my knowledge) because that's how long a season runs on TV in japan. So anime that are produced more or less fit that timeframe. Some series do get longer runs though, it just depends on a number of factors (being picked up again the next season, the creator wanting to continue the series, blah, blah).
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.

I'm actually pretty glad that a lot of series aren't any longer. Because if they were, you would have those annoying episodes that have much to do with the story, and could even be put anywhere in the series and it wouldn't matter. The show with the most "filler" episodes I would have to say, would be... Pokémon! The perfect example of a show that will never even reach it's last episode because it will be taken off the air by then. This way, without those extra episode, people actually get done the task at hand.

yeah dragonball is a long series, need i say more

but i do hear you in the fact that good anime's deserve good amount of time. cowboy bebop ran just about as long as it could, trigun ended fairly well, and while they couldv'e stuffed more episodes into it but it's good the way it is, now only anime's that don't have dramatic big endings like berserk would do for another round. berserk, suikoden, those deserved more, but i don't think too many people will agree with me but gundam wing couldv'e if they wanted to couldv'e lasted longer, i mean come on it was like the perfect series lots of action, enough drama to satify you, and it had interesting politics, not like the politics here where you listen to 800 year old geazers with bad rugs talk about zoning and what else we can do to improve thier own pay by raising which taxes.

For the moment I'm thankful that their are a number of short animes, because I have so little money and I hate waiting around for some cash to get the next few episodes.

Ok this is partially fictional, because I’ve never been able to buy anime even when I had the money ;_;. But I know how irritating it is waiting to get the next few episodes, my mom used to buy DBZ at WalMart(she’s quite the Vegeta fangirl) and it always killed me having to wait for her to buy the next few episodes, even if it was DBZ (it was right around the time my opinion of DBZ started to decline)

Yes but you forget that alot of these animes wiht set stories are dirived from manga that go much further than the end of the series itself. They could very easily have a season two of Berserk, Hellsing, and Trigun. Not to mention many others.

Two things:

1. Two year old thread getting revived out of the blue?...holy shit in a burning bag...eh...whatever

2. Actually, they want to do second seasons of Berserk and Hellsing, but in both cases they're stuck waiting until the manga wraps up (so they don't make any changes to the story that could do serious damage)
As for Trigun...as I understand it, the anime for that did not fair at all well in Japan...
Then again, US success is what brought Big O back for another run, so who knows...
