Spoiler-Need help understanding something in the movie Akira

I just rewatched Akira and I got confused on the reason Akira or Tatsuo (yes, I believe I've spelled it right; didn't I?) or any of the 3 weird kids have those powers. They kinda explained it when Kenada (yes, I believe I've spelled this right also; didn't I?) and the other girl are in prison after they tried to take over the lab. It's like they have the energy of earlier life forms and ... I don't get it.

I also don't get the ending so well, what the hell hapens. It's like every human die except the heros. And what are we supposed to think is gonna happen in the future. What's up with Akira and the 3 kids. I'm all messed up.

Can anyone clarify this?

Uhm...first off his name is Tetsuo. As for their powers, it's quite simple...they were engineered by science. The entire movie is about man and science..their relationship and the abuse of it. Basically they were trying to create these super-people (i guess). As for Tetsuo, I'd imagine after he got hit by that power from #27 (I believe that's what he was), his own power was awakened.

As for the ending, it's also pretty simple, first off not everyone died...there was an explosion, but people obviously survived and you can see some buildings and whatnot. Now where did Tetsuo go? The children summoned Akira (they say that in the movie) to take Tetsuo away and well...basically train him in his powers. That is in the movie too. Not to be mean, but you might wanna just watch it again and pay closer attention.

Yeah kthulhu, the manga make alot more since then the moive. The movie takes place in volume 2 of the 6 volume series. (by the way each vilume is like 400+ pages, so you learn alot more.)

yea .. thats pretty big ... i saw them at the comic shop ... i think it's reasonable to call them graphic novels rather then manga ...

but i don't think that is what he is asking. what i think he means is about the earlyier power thing. what it is about is about evolution. you know how we evolved from monkeys right? and before that rats and whatever. but there is also the law of science that explains that energy and matter cannot just come from nowhere right? all and all the sum of energy has to stay the same. well thenwhen the monkey changed into a human where did the energy come to make us stronger and smarter? because the monkey didn't have it. well what they say is that it is locked up in us all. like how the girl said an amedba doesn't have the ability to build a house right . but if u unlocked the power to do so in the ameba by jummping evoilutionary walls what would happen? that is what the childeren were. they were subjects to unlock that power that we all have and evolve sooner. but obviously we can't hadle it as seen by tetsuo. get it? if ya do or don't please pm me or im me.

when they are in prison, they explaine that all being have the potential to have 'THE POWER' but, this is not relized, through science, they awakene aikira's power, however, they were unable to control it, so the american's nuked tokyo(im i right in that, im sure iam, but, do correct me if im wrong) thus hurting akira enough to allow the military/scientists to disect him, and put him on ice. Number 28 (i dont know his name) used his powers to stop tetsuo runing his bike into him, causing tetsuos powers to be awakened, throught the scientist using drugs to enhance this, he became dependant on the drugs to hold back the power( also he was hooked)..... did i mention there might be spoilers?

didn't the kids say akira achieved pure energy or something like that? and then they took tetsuo to where akira was, abandoning their plans (whatever those were) and saving the world from being destroyed by tetsuo by taking him into that huge energy ball thing.

I thought Akira caused that explosion...it looks like the same explosion/sphere when he comes back in the last part of the movie so....
