Post by Fungie½ » Wed May 28, 2003 4:49 pm

Hi there, just a friendly reminder that the Shoujocon deadline is June 1st, 2003. The rules can be found at the Shoujocon Website. I hope to see all those good entries this year!

The website says July 1st as the deadline.

Also, is Analog VHS tape the only way to submit? An FTP (like ACen, Fanime, Otakon, etc.) would be real nice...especially for quality since HQ MPEG-2s can be uploaded as well as one less layer of compression.

I don't usually submit to cons I don't go to, but I think my latest romance video would probably be well-accepted and enjoyed at such a con and well..that's the point right?

Gah! Gomen nasai. Shoujocon isn't the most technical convention in the world so they don't accept digital submissions and don't have an FTP. Last year they did and it turned out great but now 2 new people are doing the contest so I doubt they do. However I could be wrong. Try e-mailing them.

If you can't make a tape, you can do what I did. I used TMPGEnc and made an SVCD file and then burned it onto CD (check VCDEasy for programs to make SVCD's). Then I put it in my DVD player and recorded from DVD onto VHS. It gave pretty good quality but it's a quite cheap method.

If you're interested in an output card, I've heard quite good things about the Hollywood+ MPEG-2 playback card. They run about $50 and give "really good" output.

Hope to see your video in the contest! It's a great contest to enter.

That's odd, they took digital last year, and did an excellent job with it. :? I wonder why the chose to switch? Probably less hassle, I assume. Well, I'd break tradition if I didn't submit, so I may as well get mine in ASAP. :P 4th year, baby!

They did do an awesome job of digital last year (I didn't even have a CD burner >< Cool peoples let me upload). The guy who did the contest last year isn't running it again this year so that's probably why they're not accepting it. I'm pending between two entries right now. Not sure which to choose ><

Ugh, that sucks that the same guy isn't running it. Last year was run *perfectly*. I can't imagine anyone will be able to suitably follow it up. *sigh* Guess we'll see what happens.
