I've been debating on upgrading to Windows XP Pro from Windows 98se and one thing keeps poping into my mind: will my encoding slow down?

I have the feeling that this will be asked also...

Pentium 2 333 MHz
384 mb RAM

The minimum stuff for XP is just a 233 processor, 300 recommended and some amount of RAM that doesn't matter to me because I have enough...

Need to solve this quandry X_x

I'd say stick with 98. XP simply wasn't made for that generation of computers. And even so, I'm sticking with 98 even on my new rig... forever until Bill Gates makes an OS that's actually better.

What's it like? I've heard it somewhat like DOS (the coding and such), but you can run different things from it, like you can run an OS through Linux (can't remember from who, but they said it worked)

Also, if I can buy it, where can I get it and for how much, and if I can download it, PM me a good site to get it from (or AIM, I'm usually on all the time, except I'm only on 3-10 pm on weekdays until June 11, then I'll be on basically whenever)

I've heard things about Linux that are good and things about XP that are good, but now that someone mentioned Linux, I will have to investigate it.

I here tha Linux is actually pretty good. It's open source so there's bound to be lots of nice things people can create for it. and unlike windows, it's free and doesn't have all the privacy issue shat.

I would switch to Linux, for sure, but that would mean learning a whole new system - and I mean I'm just a basic user, there's little that I need beyond what Windows 98 already has.

Still, if you're willing to get into something different yet more reliable - I would recommend Linux wholeheartedly.
