I'll safely bet on that you can buy the R1 version of the renewal box sometime in 2004. Damn it, I bought EoE last october and the box just 2 months ago, and they pull this on me.
And as I'a video/audiophile bastard, I gotta see this. I've seen the first episode on the test-disc, and it looks/sounds MUCH better. This is how it was meant to be, I'll give them right in that. Still, this all have to be a world record in flogging a dead horse. My morale says not to buy it, the original DVDs dont look bad at all on a nice system, but the only thing holding me back from 100% deciding to buy renewal is that unless they manage to add 5.1 to the other language(s) besides japanese, plus anamorphic prints for the movies, its really not worth it.
I mean, has ANY other anime been redone like this? No. I think they planned this form the start; 1) release dvds, but put thine director's cut eps on LD only. Then relase thine DVDs outside japan. Then release the movies, and a boxset. THEN make & release a better looking, better sounding version INCLUDING the directors cut eps & more. Laugh as your sumo-like fat japanese ass walks to the bank on the 10 year aniversary, over the fact that the fans have bought: First, DVDs as they came out, second, LDs with DC eps, third the movies, fourth the remastered disc 1 and fifth, the renewal box. This not counting all those also buying dolls/plushies and other spinoff products. When will it end?
Oh, and I cant WAIT for the ultra-mega-special-new 7.1 channel set coming on the 20th aniversary, including the eva hentai flick as well.
