I'm not bragging :) it's only a language. Plus it isn't much of an achievement when you consider that it's one of my regular courses, and on top of that, linguistics ist mein major.

German I found actually harder to learn than Japanese, oddly enough. It has a very complex grammar. Even tougher is Russian. Japanese is a bit more systematically straightforward and once you struggle through the more basic stuff, reading manga becomes gradually easier. Furigana, usually present in manga, helps lots too.

Just for god's sake, don't learn languages that you don't have a lot of interest in. Actually, don't learn anything that you don't have interest in. You should've seen all these people in my Japanese class who were going through living hell with that course while I was in heaven, despite having a similar level of prior knowledge. Mostly because I was fascinated with the language itself and they were not.

Err... Out of rant mode... Someone... give meh more Azumanga... love it... really love it.... Chiyo-chan... evil

well the only reason i'd like to relearn italian is becuase it was the first language i spoke coherently. I spoke it perfectly for a 4 year old. Then i went to school and started watching TV and learned English while forgetting Italian ...

German, i just like the way it sounds. I relise that it would be a real bitch to learn.

latin, i'd learn it because i already have some knoledge of it (from my limited knoledge of italian) and i like how it sounds.

And japanese ... hmm, it's an iteresting language ... but i dont't know if i'd be able to do if for the reasons you stated. Plus i don't have any japanese courses in my school.

But i'm generaly linguisticaly challenged, at least when it comes to speaking. Speaking in general is a nusciance for me since my train of thought gets severly muttled when it goes from my mind to my mouth (another of the problems that ADD has wrought upon me). Which is why if i had to loose an ability/sense, it go mute. Id be fine with reading and writing languages.

OMG... that's more than I could ask for in terms of wallpapers :D

Now, to pick one that fits...

Languages - hell, if you really like anime, that's already a good enough reason to start learning the language. This is where my whole learning process started. In fact, that's where a lot of things started.

A good part to all this for me is that I'm quite likely to be in Japan a year from now... the learning will sure come in handy then.

well i suppose so. i don't know if i'd beable to do it or if i'd loose interest ... well it depends on lots of circuimstances and way too many variables ... bah, i'd probalby guy a few books, and soem soft ware and duke it out myself (which is not the best way to learn).

hmm, boing to japan? School related? One of the Colleges i applied to has a japanese exchange program. If i take 3 japanese language courses and was in their electronic engineering program i'd be able to do my senior year as an employee of a japanese electronics company, in japan (jsut incase somone missed that part). Cool idea, but i don't think i'm going to that college, though it would be a great experience, odds are that i soulnd't get it ... it's a part of the program thats apparantly in very high demand.

I realise that this is just a spelling mistake, but thinking of people going over to Japan on big springs or something makes me chuckle.

The guy who runs my anime society has taken opinion ratings on everything we've shown for the last four years and Azumanga Daioh is the joint-highest rated series we've ever shown- tied with His and Her Circumstances- and we've shown an awful lot of stuff over that time. Great series that everyone can enjoy.

Have many of you seen Azumanga Web Daioh? Only one episode, sadly, but very enjoyable :D

I have all of it, though only seen about 5-6 episodes so far. First time I gave it a look, I thought it was pretty funny. Second time I looked at it, I thought it was awesome and downright hilarious! I'd rate it very highly, just below FLCL for me :)
As I've been told, it's "about as exciting as the lives of a half-dozen Japanese schoolgirls". Now you figure out what that means to you. I find it darn hilarious and probably a good reflection of the actual school life (in a weird kinda way, but still... just as Love Hina seems to reflect the struggles of University students/failures in a slightly distorted fashion)

I think I'll be boing over to Japan, for sure. Maybe another way you could interpret it is "Boeing", most likely 747, commonly used en route to Japan

Azumanga Daioh is the funniest anime ever! But if you are new to anime I don't recommend seeing it Until you have absorbed some more Japanese series than the ones being shown on tv right now.

Much like FLCL, Azumanga Daioh has a whole lot of anime inside jokes, and even more cultural references. It's still funny, just that it's even funnier when you actually get all those cultural jokes, too.
