We do not... however, thanks for the tip-off, this means I'll watch for these things. I enjoy checking out new music once in a while.
To clarify my stance, while I am out of the mainstream, I'm not completely underground. Generally, I listen to fairly popular (known) music, but not to mass culture's music. However, it is my belief that there is plenty of talent dwelling beyond where most people look.

Which is why I don't think that Tom's mentions are legendary per se, but I'm certain they are solos by worthwhile and talented musicians. I do think that Stairway to Heaven's legendary status has much to do with exposure, perhaps (blasphemy!

) even more with exposure than actual musical finesse.

That said, I guess it's always a tough discussion with music... there's little empirical about it.

Well... hell, I gotta get out of ponderous rant mode and back to guitar solos. And once we run out of those, how about we go on to legendary duets/trios/quartets/quintets or even to bass or drum solos?

Andrea Segovia - The ledgend ... this is an amazing song ... it's about 4 minuites long, and it's all classical guitar ... get it!

Listened to quite a bit of Segovia and other classical guitar stuff in my life

Lots and lots of extremely good listening in classics, though with one caution - usually, in this case it isn't the piece itself that is so important, but the performer.

THe ledgend was the first classical guitar solo i had heard, and man was it a good one. But yes, classical music make for great listening, exspecialy when your working out ... nothing like beethoven while your doing butterfly curls.

Well, I love epics, that's true. Generally, the length just indicates that there's musicians good enough to keep a statement going for that long. Or, alternatively, and even better for me - actually engage in lengthy improvisation. That's what really touches off a note with me. It's not that it's always that it really produces something great and legendary, but the result is usually very much alive in nature.
Calculated epics I like in a bit of a different way, but like them all the same.

Oh yea, and Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment have long been on my watchlist, but sadly other musical interests and lack of resources tend to keep me away... well, one day, one day...
