Well yes but using Windows Media Player 9 I open it and goto "Save media as" and save it as .avi since that works

Long live Re-compression! It rocks!

I could say I was being sarcastic, but...

besides, wmv9 really isnt that bad. Okay, it's quite good actually. On par with divx 5 and Xvid I'd say, but rv9 still owns it ;p

Use mplayer! It runs on Mac OS X and almost any other UNIX out there!

There is no excuse for saying "I can't play [file format]" anymore when there's one player out there that will play any modern format...

Actually, wait a second. I'm not sure if WMV support was made native or if mplayer still goes through the Win32 DirectShow filter to get it to work -- the mplayer status page doesn't really say much about what works on what platform.

Well, I guess if it's the latter, then I guess you guys really are out of luck :P

I'm looking, and I don't think it works for osx.

It says it work with Unix, but I don't think that nessearly means it works for OSX.

We can play them on Windows Media Player (we have our own verson)

It just sucks.

(think real media, but skips a LOT)

Hmm, not sure which should get deleted first --- the DBZ videos or the .wmv files. In .wmv's defense, at least mplayer can handle at lot of them. Nothing, OTOH, can make a lot of DBZ videos watchable.

wm9 is actually a reasonable codec, despite being fairly single platform.

Again, there is no justification for not allowing something onto the carrot server based purely upon quality (visual or otherwise). It's an offensive idea.

Which removes it from my list of reasonable codecs, since that single platform isn't either of the two I use.

Well, I'm the evil server admin, so, to play the role, I must disagree  And I could probably actually get away with it if we ran out of disk space, which unfortunately we're not close to. And if it weren't for those pesky kids and that dog.
