Spoilers in AMVs...?

Hello! This is my first post here. I used to make terrible 2-vcr videos, now, years later, I've decided to start making AMVs again, this time with a computer... As an animation major, I had all the hardware and software I needed, so that was kind of cool. Anyway, I've started making a Cowboy Bebop music video and I want to use some footage from the last few episodes. Is it considered okay to have "spoilers" in AMVs? Should I put a warning at the beginning of the video? What's the procedure?

There is actually a built in feature in the site when you enter your video it asks if it has spoilers then labels it appropreatly.

When you're posting your video on the site, there's actually a box you check I believe, that notifies everyone else that your video contains spoilers. Also, some people like to put it into their video notes, which can also be inputted when you are entering your video into the database.

What about at cons, though? I'm on a 56k modem so posting on the site isn't so much of a concern (I'm not sure it'll ever happen, until I get broadband). But I'm probably going to be entering an AMV contest at a con.... and I don't want everyone to hate me.

For something really big like Cowboy Bebop, I think that most people will have seen the series already- especially people at a con- and there shouldn't be too much of a fracas about it. I mean, they know that some vids have inevitable spoilers, so if they don't want to run that risk, why go watch the AMVs?

The protocol at cons and on the web is a bit different.

Cons like Otakon and others put warnings up at the beginning of the show so you know what to expect. Spoilers is one, and I think Otakon warns you about the violence and (sometimes) rampant nudity. ^.^

Also, at a con that big, most of the anime used is going to be newer since the older ones have been used before and originality is a good way to get your amv into the actual contest. This isn't always the case, especially in the comedy catagory but it's pretty much true.

In other words, at cons, people expect to see spoilers or are at least aware enough that the smart ones will avert their eyes if an anime they want to see in the futrue comes up.

Web amvs are a bit different...I guess I don't completely understand why this would be an issue myself. You do have to download the video to watch it, and almost always download it knowing the anime used. So it is not going to be a suprise....

On the other hand, if you want to be introduced to a new anime but don't want spoiled, an amv is a good place to start. In these cases, at least on this site, you can mention your level of spoilers and even make a judgement advising people not to watch it if you (who most likely already watched the series :/ ) think they should avoid your video.

In contrast to what Misty said, there is no warning at a contest like AX. Pretty much, if the video is good enough, people will forgive you. ^_^

I think people expect spoilers from amvs by now anyway.
