*Sigh* the old EoE question. The following is, in my opinion, what happened:
Asuka died at the hands of the production series Evas, as confirmed by the sensory equipment of the tech support crew at Central Dogma's reactions. The scene in which Shinji strangles her is an imaginary scene designed to cause mental stress, incited by the anti-AT fields of the Evas. The 3rd Impact could only be completed by destroying Shinji's AT field, or 'breaking down his ego'. That's ego as in mental self, not his confidence. At the end of 3rd Impact, anyone who died within it (including Asuka) is given the oppurtunity, should they wish, to reform their physical selves. Asuka and Shinji are two of the people who do so. Shinji, broken-hearted, tries to test whether he is finally back to the real world again or not by strangling Asuka. That people can hurt each other again is a sign that AT fields have been reinstated and that 3rd Impact is over. She stops him from strangling her by showing some affection- perhaps affection that had remained hidden inside her all along. Her final, enigmatic comment is open to interpretation, but I think that it's her trying to re-establish the shell that she had always kept up around her again and shut everyone out.
*Gasp* that's it. My opinion only, people!

I found EoE to be very disturbing, yet satisfying. I now see why Evangelion is probably the most acclaimed anime of all time. It is so deep in detail. I didn't understand a lot at first, but when I started visiting websites and looking up information, I was able to piece togather the whole "Evangelion Experience".

The leaf is a fig leaf. Adam and Eve stuff- covering their nakedness, kinda thing. It could be conjectured that the eating of the apple was when the AT field was created (just thought of that off the top of my head). The quote, "God's in his heaven now, all's right with the world', is from a poem by Robert Browning that is in fact about bunny rabbits and flowers, more or less. Browning is of note for saying that:
Some have said the world will end in ice
And others say in fire,
From what I've tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favour fire.
Which is the opposite view to T.S. Eliot's "The world will end not with a bang, but with a whimper'.
God is mentioned as having 7 eyes several times in the Bible. You will note that:
1 eye on Unit-00 + 2 eyes on Unit-01 + 4 eyes on Unit-02 = 7 eyes of God
7 is also important to the study of bible numerics. Each 'letter' in the original Hebrew also corresponds to a number. By studying these numbers, certain patterns arise- for instance, the prolification of instances of the number 7 (some say the 'number of God') and, to a lesser extent, 37.

IC, but I thought Longinus was a "good" man..in that he was actually being merciful to christ in killing him...actually in the bible, Longinus just stabs him to make sure he's dead (and then water and blood come out IIRC).Nightowl wrote:dwChang - the major theory regarding Keel is that he is Longinus, the soldier who pierced Christ while he was on the cross. His spear is, thought by some, to still be in existence, and contains just as much power as the Ark of the Covenant (as the spear actually touched Christ's blood). There are many varying stories regarding Longinus, as he doesn't exactly have a starring role in any of the various religious tomes.
As for history, the Spear of Longinus has a lot of stories. It is rumored that whoever posses the Spear of Longinus will rule the world. It is rumored that Napolean and Hitler had it in their possessions at the peak of their regimes (or was it they were looking for it?).
Either way...regardless of which one of us is right, it's still cool that he has a metal spine and could one of those two people and hence him wanting death. Thanks for the input.
Hey! I just said all thatTom the Fish wrote:Shinji and Asuka will not be the last two people on Earth. Rei states that "Anyone can return to human form as long as they can imagine themselves in their own heart" when Shinji chooses for the people of Earth to return to their AT fields regardless of the pain. I'm assuming the reason that Shinji and Asuka are back first is because they were protected in the eva units.

Yes it is unfortunate that he received death threats. I had seen the entire TV series awhile ago (before the movie was out) and I was still satisfied with it. I mean it was a bit more ambiguous in the story elements, but the characters parts are MUCH better than EoE. Although ppl say he just ran out of money and EoE is his real vision..I think there is enough merit to say that Episode 25/26 WERE what he wanted and that he was pissed making EoE...and it shows.AtomicWeezleman wrote:BTW, since anno got the death threats, he intentialy made the films as an 'UP YOURS' to the fans, it was supposed to leave us with more questions than answers. Anyhow, id be a bit pissed of aswell if i made a great series and people sent me death threats cos they thought it should have more fighting in it....
Ahhhhhh!!! I said that tooSavia wrote:Asuka died at the hands of the production series Evas, as confirmed by the sensory equipment of the tech support crew at Central Dogma's reactions. I would like to add that the whole ending and AT fields is just a message to ourselves. I said it in my previous post, but I'll reiterate...the show is about us and our "at fields" that hurt us and others. Anno is trying to say something about how we all have worth regardless and should try and live our lives together (not in this false reality). Hell even before Third Impact, Shinji continually ran away from his problems and lived in his own little world where his existence was dependent on what others thought of him (no self-worth).
Although I like your theory, I thought the Eva's having 1 eye, 2 and 4 were respresentative of three barons of hell. Basically what i have heard is that one barron had one eye, another had two and a horn (Unit 01) and the third had four eyes. That would explain the reason Unit 01 has a horn. Also it works within the context of the show. Angels fighting Demons. Also in a dark way since humans and demons are somewhat aligned. Either way it's still interesting how many "little" things he put into the story that all fits together.Savia wrote:God is mentioned as having 7 eyes several times in the Bible. You will note that:

That one's from the commentary track. Apparently, the Evas resemble Babylonian gods. My knowledge of Babylonian gods is limited to this fact :\ I chucked in the Bible numerics stuff from my own interests.dwchang wrote:Ahhhhhh!!! i never heard any thing about Lilith ... i need to read more mysticism i guess ...Jebadia wrote:(btw Eve was Adam's second wife. His first was Lilith, who was in most cases a play boy bunny compared to Eve)
So God booted them out of Eden, and had some serpent and a guy with a flaming blade (am I right?) to guard the other tree. (the tree of life) If in fact they would of ate from the other tree, the would of pretty much became gods themselves.
as for the flaming blade guy .. yup ... god sent one of the cherubrem(sp?) to gaurd eden. If my Knoledge of angelic forms is correct the cherubs look nothing liek the cute baby anges we know ... they ahve 4 faces and 6 wings. 2 wings cover their faces , 2 wings cover their hands, and 2 wings cover their feet ... or is theat the seriphim(sp?) taht cover body parts with their wings ... either way angels are very scary things when you read about their physical discrptions.
well it worked for me ... plus i problaby wasn't paying eneough attention or time jsut made every thing foggy ...AtomicWeezleman wrote:BTW, since anno got the death threats, he intentialy made the films as an 'UP YOURS' to the fans, it was supposed to leave us with more questions than answers.
but about the death threats ... theres a song title that i couldnt keep out of my head when i read that, "people = shit" ... cookie for any one who knows who wrote it (it shouldn't be that hard). But i suppose that episodes 25 and 26 are pretty much the way the manga ended ...
I was never entirely sure if it was asuka's arm or her eva's arm that got split in half .. i've been meaning to rewatch that part for a while ... would it be possible that Asuka was resserected by shinji (or the part of him that loved her)? Because by her talking she seemed to be alive to me.

Think about this: Unit 02's head and arms were cut off by the fax-paper-arm angel in the t.v. series. Asuka survives this. How about in EoE...
I found some other stuff:

The fig leaf, according to legend, is the symbol of the original sin which entangled Adam and Eve. It reminds us of the human who ate the Fruit of Wisdom.

most if not all of this is from the Red Cross Book. This was given out at the theaters while EoE was playing. It's basically written by some members of Gainax and explains a lot of Eva. Given...most of it was in the movie anyway...Lone Wolf wrote: I found some other stuff:

i guess it's becasue when it happened in EoE Asuka's eva was going bezerk. When that happens, as i understand the the sync rate jumps up amazingly high, when shinji went bezerker on that angel his sync ratio was 400%. I guess when your that in sync with your eva what ever happens to it may as well happen to you in every sense of the word.Lone Wolf wrote:Think about this: Unit 02's head and arms were cut off by the fax-paper-arm angel in the t.v. series.
