Hidden personalities
multiple personalities isn't really something new. personalities are often a tool for a specific use, the most commonly known is an intimate friend for an abused child. but what is the least known, well, that's god.
god is a created personality. it serves as a tool of confession, forgivesness, purpose, and security, among other things. god is created what we read of him, or hear of him, or believe we saw of him, or her.
the creation of multiple personalities isn't all that hard, infact, you could create a full blown identity simply by pretending to be a different person a minnute everyday. your mind is powerful enough that as time goes by, it'll create memories and emotions for it and soon enough, you'll have a person talking to you, in your head.
try it at your risk. you might never be alone, but you'll won't also have the same friendom.
and no, i don't have multiple personalities, for those curious.

that's a general term. hearing voices could just be teh result of memories coming back. you can hear it the same way you can see a light bulb simply by thinking of it. You actually "see" the lightbulb in your head regardless of what your eyes are telling you.AtomicWeezleman wrote:isnt that generaly known as going mad??? voices in your head? a sure sign of madness....

depends on the way you think, some people think in images, others in words, some in both ( i mainly think in words) when someone says Banana to me, i think BANANA as a word, not an image.....anyhow, as to the duel personalities, then yes, use them enought, and youll start generating their own history, expression so on and so forth, then youll be totaly fucked, cos you dont know whose the real you anymore.....

actually, you still know who your are. you'll be teh one that's not perfect, in your mind at least. you'll be the one with faults, the one that's not smart enough, or strong, or beautiful.AtomicWeezleman wrote:depends on the way you think, some people think in images, others in words, some in both ( i mainly think in words) when someone says Banana to me, i think BANANA as a word, not an image.....anyhow, as to the duel personalities, then yes, use them enought, and youll start generating their own history, expression so on and so forth, then youll be totaly fucked, cos you dont know whose the real you anymore.....
with multiple personalities, the danger is that one of them will become dominant and you will become the voice in it's head.

Random babble on the subject:
I think most people who think they have MPD actually are just discovering the fact that people are complicated. Expecting everyone to fall neatly into an easily definable box - themselves included - they freak out when they find out that there are exceptions to the rules, and that they feel different in the same situation at different times. The problem is not a split personality, the problem is that their expectations of people are too simplistic.
"I'm not like that" is a crock. If you feel it, you ARE like that. Not some other spirit that lives in you. Trust me, some scary crap has come out of my mind, but it's all mine. Do I like everything I think? Hell no. Do I like all sides of myself? No. Or hate them all? No. But it's all part of the whole.
Everyone is like that. Personally, I find it absolutely fascinating that people are this complex. It disappoints me when people carve off parts of their minds, give them cute little names - as if a person can only hold one emotion, ever, and if there are complications it must be like another "person" talking to you. They're just playing, really, but I find it a sad oversimplification. I know a lot of people online who do this, and although in some cases I like these people otherwise, it still irritates me.
Real, clinical MPD cannot be detected by the person who has it, as I understand. It is the result of severely, VERY severely fucked-up development, when a person cannot deal with something - I don't mean "omg my gf broke up with me," I mean shit like "my stepfather/neighbor/priest raped me repeatedly for ten years" - and rather than rise to the challenge, the mind makes puppets to deal with the problems instead. It is a fucking scary state. I've met one person with untreated MPD - and thank god I was about to leave anyway when this chick I had always thought was tough and independent in high school suddenly turned into a whining six-year-old girl. Otherwise it would have freaked me the hell out.
Things like that just shouldn't be taken lightly, in my opinion.
Rambling's over.

With all due respect, what the fuck? As I understand the risk is that someone with MPD is not capable of dealing with the stresses of normal life and can become increasingly fractured and avoidant of reality. What's all this Matrix-ey BS about "voices"? MPD doesn't have voices; that's schizophrenia.Lyrs wrote:

Hearing voices is a possible side effect of schizophrenia. It is not multiple personalities. That's DID, or Dissociative Identity Disorder.
DID is sort of a complication of a psychological defense mechinism. When a situation becomes overwhelmingly stressful, people are said to become dissociated with it. Their conscious awareness becomes seperated from painful memories, thoughts, or memories. To an extent, this happens in everyday life. Have you ever been driving, and then you're at your destination, without truly remember driving there? You most likely phased out, dissociated from reality. Facing trauma, such detachment may actually protect a person from being overwhelmed by emotion. Prolonged dissociation will develop the disorder.
Schizophrenia, on the other hand, refers not to multple personalities but to a split from reality. It literally means "split mind" and typically shows itself in disorganized thinking ("This morning, I got up at 9 am. I was making a movie yesterday. I was Robin Hood in it, and I thought my room was painted blue yesterday"), disturbing perceptions (hallucinations, mostly auditory), and inappropriate emotions and actions (Cataconic, compulsive acts, and laughing at your mother's funeral).

whoa roz
that does sound like my favorite mental case

We're talking about somebody that told me that while we were apart realizations happened and she figured out she was much better off not caring about anyone. Coincidentally, she was hearing voices during those few months. Go figure.DID is sort of a complication of a psychological defense mechinism.
