I've kept in contact with my Senior year English teacher since I graduated 3 years ago. She's teaching a Science Fiction course now, and she's invited me to come back down to SA to be a "Special Guest Teacher" for a week, centering on sci-fi anime. So I'm planning on showing all of Metropolis to cover the first 2 days, and spend the 3rd day discussing that. Then on Day 4 probably show an episode of Eva, and discuss that, and on Day 5 an ep of Astro Boy (not sure about this one, since I dont know if I want to do 2 Osamu Tezuka things.... Actually I'm not sure about Eva either). So yeah, that's gonna be fun
Except I know that theres gonna be that one smart ass otaku guy in the class who's gonna always try to one-up me.

well i ment they get all of our best people. Unless you held canadien citizenship while you were in school that line didn't really apply to you ... but i wouldn't doubt it that your a "splendiferous" engineer.dwchang wrote:Yeah they sure do...they got me. Meant it in a..Naga from Slayers sort of way. The "Oh ho ho ho" laugh is in a lot of animes and is a stereotypical arrogant female japanese laugh.
As for Santa Claus....you dressed up as Santa for your cousins...that's nice in a cheezy sort of way. Then again, I THINK you're not THAT old.

Ah times have changed. Back when I was in High School Eva hadn't even been concieved, Akira had barely been released to VHS, and most anime tapes ran $45 a pop. A well...dwchang wrote:In my Japanese class in HS, we watched....Akira, My Neighbor Totoro, Ah! My Goddess OVA, Doraemon and probably some more anime. The only reason she let us watch Akira is because she thought it had a good message underneath it (that of science and boundaries). It was good that a lot of us liked anime and suggested things (like Akira).
Although not during my years of HS, my Sophmore English Teacher showed the entire Evangelion TV series for a few weeks. NO JOKE! It's even cooler since I introduced the show to my friend who in turn suggested it to the teacher and thus concluded with an entire English class watching. It sure did make me feel good about myself

It makes me very nervous.dwchang wrote:You should work on thatpropyro wrote: meh, thats a habbit of mine ... when i'm quickly reading over something i usualy read only what i want to see and not actualy whats there ... big problem when i have to read out loud in class ...

meh, i had no say in the matter. It was nice in a way because one of my older younger cosins was being an ass so i was able to kick him in the head from my chair. But hey, the cousins i dressed up for were 3 and 5 ... you really can't say no to them ... and when my myther threatening me whit bodliy harm didn't help much either.
oh, and i never saw slayers ... or very many arrogant stereotypical female villians ... well maybe on pokemon (yea, i watched it before i was introduced to "real" anime because it was on when i got home form school and there was nothing better to watch)
