I fail to see how having "The" in your band's name makes you unoriginal. In fact, by using the definite article "the", they are trying to be the original, DEFINITIVE version of that band. They'd be more unoriginal by calling themselves "Some Strokes" or "A Few Strokes" since they'd be implying that there were other Strokes elsewhere. When they call themselves "The Strokes", they are proclaiming that they are indeed the one and only Strokes. All others must therefore be imposters and they can strike them down with the righteous fist of the law if they should encounter others.
If you want to fault bands for unoriginality, it should at least be based on their music or presentation and not on just their names.
