Bobby Beaver aka Ck-o was around the same time as well and Duane Johnson who is a hentai merchant now (hahaha sorry Daune I couldn't resist). I bet this could be debated and researched as to the one who started it all, but in the end does it really matter? I would say the original group of amv creators deserve the same amount of recognition / props for what they did and started for the rest of us.

2 words for you guys....Vlad Pohnert.

Actually he started in 1987 I think. But he still qualifies as one of them founding fathers if you ask me.

And no, Kevin Caldwell did not AMVs. He invent a cult and thats it!

Makes me feel real old... well, maybe if I ever do a amv panel at a con I'll show my first ever video (no it wan't anime but Doctor Who)... It was done on two VCRs...No flying ease head...One was top loading mono.. I used records as source material (YES, RECORDS) so there is sone hiss and cracling in the audio track. But even after using those for several years, my first ever Music video still seemed to be popular at cons.... (I originally did 4 that year for a Doctor Who con for the opening ceremonies. Go figure....

I didn't really make my furst official amine video until about 1993 or 1992 - can't even remember that...)

Founding Fathers....Na, just old....

I don't know who did the first, but I certainly recall stuff attached to my old fan-subbed copy of Be Forever, Yamato that was done by "You Know Who". Apparently the guy was using his workplace's equipment after-hours for editing and subtitling and didn't wish to be found out.

Then there's that Tommy Shaw "Girls with Guns" video set to Dirty Pair...but the very first AMV? A mystery. I'd love to know what source material was used for this alleged 1982 AMV.
From what I know, the AMV in 1982 was to the original Gundam series using the song "Mr Roboto"

Glad that some poor sap is even older than I am who actually did/does this stuff :P

Flaming Moses on a Segway! That's about as good a match as "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" with Kimagure Orange Road!

Damn right! Dr. Who rules! The first vid I ever did used Dr. WHo as source footage! :)
I was using the 4th Doctor "Key to Time" series. I used to VCRs and had source audio on audio cassette. (I actually used the song "Fly Like an Eagle" - You know.. Fly like an eagle into the future! :P )
Alcohol, Drugs, Overdrive, Noise, Neon Lights, Party People, Revolution

Well I used for the four:

- "Doctor Doctor" by the "Thompson Twins" to the Doctors
- "Criminal Mind" by "Gowan" for the Master
- "Legs" by "ZZ Top" to the Female short skirt Companions
- "Doctor Who is Ginna Fix it" by some australian group to the Doctors....

My first 4 music videos... Legs was the most popular..Go figure..

Ah, audio cassettes... my very first AMV used one of those, along with an unsubbed VHS copy (via tape trading--no domestic version existed) of Akira.

Lemme tell ya, after watching those for a while, you get DOUBLE SHOCK POWAAAH when you see Akira in full theatrical glory on the big screen (yes, it was the Streamline dub).

I'm not exactly sure, but from Outlaw's MAD Info page I got the impression that AMVs are based on Japanese MADs which started in around 1978.
