The biggest problem that I run into with this whole "create the video in your mind and then work the technical side" is that the footage is very limiting. Whenever I have this really baddass scene planned out, with this perfect idea for effects, the scenes are always 20 frames short of what I need, and the effect I want to use doesn't exist anywhere but in my mind, meaning I can spend hours photoshoping/after effectsing each frame, or I can sell short and look for another clip that will work in a similar way, but will go the whole way without stretching, and find an effect that will work, or scratch the effect entirely (which is the more common result.)
I'm thinking of working on a new action video soon (it will be my first ever action video) and so I'm giving all of this some very serious thought. What I really want to do is sit down with Koop and have a talk about how Rei-mix was made, see if I can't use magix or something, because those are the best effects I've ever seen.

I have an idea, why not ask the idiot who made the video to help you out?
I'm sure he would ^_^

Very definitely. About the only effect in the video I don't really have an idea of how to do in After Effects (as opposed to Magix) is the hex 'bar graph' effect. My wife figures it was a wipe/transition of sorts used in a really creative way. Either way, I'd say Omni hit it on the head- if you're interested in how someone did a certain effect, ask them directly. Most of the editors I know will fairly readily tell you how they did something...OmniStrata wrote:"It's not the program, it's the amv editor..." - Koopiskeva

Anyway, yeah, I know where you are coming from, and I'm not exactly proud to admit that I never had the patients to work out effects. That also has to do with the fact that I always got discouraged away from doing any effects videos by the fact that I... had... no.. idea... waht I was doing... crap... it's a vicious cycle. Alrighty then, I'm gonna make my first effects video, you'll see
