It is rather interesting that there seems to be a disproportionately small number of female AMVers to what the general anime fan population seems to be. Well, at least from my POV... the difference in the number of girls/women at AXNY and Katsucon 9 compared to the previous con I was at, AX'97, was rather amazing.

I think it may be more of a matter of how we choose to express ourselves. As has been stated, there seem to be a good number more female fanfic authors, and there also seem to be a good number more fanatical female cosplayers (about which I'm definitely not going to complain... ) than male ones, that put amounts of time and effort into costumes that make the effort most of us put into vids look like child's play.

I would also not be surprised that there is a higher proportion of good female editors to bad than there are good male editors to bad... I can't offhand think of any really bad videos I've seen that I know were made by women.

What's somewhat interesting is that this isn't just limited to AMVs... my wife works in television, and while the vast majority of the employees where she works are women (if the NYC school district cancels school, they pretty much close the offices), the majority of the A/V technical people and editors are men. And this is despite the fact that I believe a majority of the Comm. majors in my wife's department at school, where she learned editing, were female.

Hey we all enjoy the same thing ^^ Gender doesn't matter. But there is more of a male audience to AMV's. And I think you are right, it's mostly because it's more of a technical thing, and most women shy away from things like this.

But it's nice to see videos from both side, and no gender is better when ot comes to making videos, because it's something we all enjoy :)

But on the other had it is nice to see more women creating videos ^^

men vs woman

Post by anneke » Tue Apr 15, 2003 11:59 am

I noticed awhile ago (over a year or two) that there were less female AMV creators. I'm just happy to see our numbers have increased. (I still surprise people on chat when they figure out/realize I'm female).

Don't forget there are more female cosplayers and cosplay costume creators then there are male ones. However those numbers are shifting as well.

I think most girls shy from the "nerd" title that usually is associated with girls who get into teh technical stuff. But for what's it's worth, i think that the girls that are actively participating have done greats jobs especially Silver Moon and Pruiscomet who shows a lot of potential.

OK, so there's more girls on the internet, in fanfiction, in drawing, bt more guys for AMVs.

Guys' minds work differently then girls'.

It's been proven that...

Girls can and do write better and more often then guys
Girls can and do perform/make better art(and sometimes more often) then guys.(whether it be performing or visual.)

Girls express their emotions easier and more effectively(in speech) then guys can.

----
So what's the deal with AMVs?

Well, there's definetly that technical part. But I think it has to do with the social ladder.. And the "nerd" thing.

See, with females, they are social creatures. To spend time away from social happenings(By spending time at home on the computer creating an AMV) their position on the social ladder goes down. While if they stay away from technical stuff(that takes time) they're basically non-existant to the other females.

Where as with males, it's all about strength and actions, rather then words.

See, the girls who make AMVs, are either social outcasts, lesbians/bis, crossdressers, tomboys, or all of the above.

Why do I know all this when I'm only 15?
Psycology and Sociology have become hobbies and interests of mine since I'm a social outcast, and a crossdresser....

In fact, If you meet me in real life, and accidentally call me a guy, I'll smile. :D Because I'm getting away with confusing the sexes ;).

As for crappy girl AMVs, check out my profile. I'm practically a guy anyway, so that may be why...

Truth be told there are more women than men, I believe the ratio is 53% to 47%.... Give or take a percent...

That's only 3% but 3% of billion to trillions of people is a lot...
