I really hope that Bush keeps true to his word about leaving the government in Iraqi hands. I whole heartily believe that if we try to control the government there that there will be a huge revolt against Americans in Iraq.
Many of the comments I read don't seem to take into account that we put Saddam into power in the first place and funded him and equipped him... he was one of our many "friendly dictators".
America helped fund the Iraqis fight the Iranians, but apparently, we were also supplying Iranians weapons to fight the Iraqis.
I guess since that was back in the early 80's then it's not important to think about... it being so long ago... *cough* *cough*
I think a lot of Iraqis aren't jumping for joy because we helped make their lives miserable for our own goals by supporting this murderer and his regime when it suited our needs.
Then... during the Gulf War of former President Bush... Bush had urged the Iraqi people to rise up against Saddam... but then offered no support for them... so those who actually did so were gunned down by Saddam and his weapons bought with American money.
Now we're back... "liberating" Iraqis...
buyt the war was supposed to be about Saddam refusing to turn over his chemical weapons and weapons of mass distruction...
but to make the war more pleasing to the public eye... it is now suddenly about liberating the Iraqis... a group of people we sure didn't care about before...
but hey... Gov. Bush (the presidential pretender) hasn't even met any of the promises he made about helping restore Afghanistan (remember them?) and has not provided the funding he said he would to help those people.
Clearly the War on Iraq is about 2 things.
Money and Oil.
The Vice President's former company is taking on the job of the restoration of Iraq...
The Oil for Food program is rather disturbing to hear about as well.
I don't know if anyone else is that bothered by our American troops losing their lives for the main purpose of lining the pockets of wealthy businessmen...
but anyone who tells me that the Bush regime honestly cares about liberating the Iraqi people can save themselves the effort. It's fairly clear what Bush and his backers are truly in support of.
While I'm glad that the Iraqis are free of Saddam, they now have a whole new bundle of problems... some in the form of American interests.
America is suffering at home as well... Especially when student protestors are shot at, Freedoms stymied, and unemployment skyrocketing. On 9/11 we had support from all the nations of the world... and now most of those nations are very angry at us (and have every right to be)
Since the Democrats have become mostly worthless during the time that Gov. Bush has assumed his undeserved office and reigned with incompitence, I'm really rather depressed about the path we're currently on.
I am ashamed of my own nation right now and can only hope that better news will come my way...
