What would you like to do and see at an AMV Convention

Post by Vlad G Pohnert » Fri Mar 28, 2003 10:05 pm

So, lets say there was such an event,

What would be cool to see and do there?

How far would you be willing to travel to it?

What would be the ultimate event to have if cost was not important?

Show amvs 24/7 obviously.

Have contests, non-competing screenings, even play amvs inside the cafeteria when people are eating.

Advanced Panels, Beginner panels, etc...

Iron chefs.

Leave no amv creator behind.

A week long anime convention at a roller coaster park with an IMAX screen for videos. Well, that would probably kill everyone after too long...at least a whole movie theater for the amvs.

Video game tournaments played on theater sized screens, with enough for everyone! No waiting.

A dealers room open convenient hours so you can enjoy con and enjoy the dealers room without missing anything. Oh, and the dealers have aren't marking up stuff like crazy. (we're still in fantasy land though  they wouldn't even come if they didn't think they'd make a large profit)

A repeated schedule in rotation (over the week) so if there are two things going on at once you simply must do/see, you have another chance. This would also let most staff have their con and eat it too. Er...that didn't come out right  That way, staff wouldn't have to run the con solid, they could play attendee for a day or two.

Karaoke would be held in a sound proof room, so innocent con-goers could avoid ear bleed

Con suite would be Texas Roadhouse or Golden Corral :9

Yep, I'd go there.

My ideas of what an AMV convention should be like:

-At least 2 rooms dedicated to AMV's, one room for anime screenings, and, if possible, another room dedicated to fan parodies, professionally produced anime music videos (i.e. On Your Mark, Daicon IV) and "Monkey Hell"-like stuff (i.e. the Yatta music video, Rejected).

-Panels on AMV making, distributing, etc.

-The DDR Projects (with documentaries) and other multi-AMV maker projects as special events.

-AMV variations of popular convention events (i.e. karaoke, dance, game shows), although the cosplay contest will remain the same.

-If the convention is held at a hotel, then round the clock AMV's on closed-circuit TV (a la Animazement).

As for distance, I'd probably go as north as Pennsylvania/New Jersey and as south as the Durham area of North Carolina, although the convention can be held anywhere.

Interviews with editors who have been doing this for a long time, showcases of particularly unique and interesting videos, I definitely concur on the Iron Chef-style contests. Oh, and workshops for those who wish to learn more about software, etc.

I'd definantly have to go with a lot of workshops and showcases. I'm sure some people could never get enough of AD showing us how he made SRV. Plus, it'd be a great way to learn new things and collaborate. One idea that I had a while ago that I think would be fucking awesome if a lot of people could band together and do would be to make an AMV in 3-D

A real life AMV creator steel cage deathmatch. Only problem is, I'm the only one who'd like to see that.

Lemme see.....I wouldn't wanna see interviews wit AMV creators, cuz that level of hero worship can send me into a blind fury, an' I dunno how Quu'd feel if other people started rippin off Iron Chef.

Lemme see, gotta have a couple of contests, wit different criteria, possibly some crap about the DDR projects, an' some screenings of the various AMV documentaries.
One thing they'd have to do is show some of these vids we all hear about but not everyone's seen since they so huge. Like that Otakudom thingy.

Or how bout AMV DDR? AMVs wit dance steps set up around a game room =P
