Does anyone here subscribe to Newtype? or just buy it regularly? I just got the April issue and its pretty good, has the top 100 anime Heroines of the year, or has I think of it, hottest chicks of the year. So anyone else read?

So far I have every issue except that preview one they gave out at Otakon last year (I think).

The only real gripe I have about it right now is that the DVD is always some ADV title. I want to see others from like Bandai, Pioneer, or even Media Blasters. I asked about it on animeondvd but it looks like ADV is contracted to supply preview titles for at least the remainder of the year.

Don't know if anybody else will be jumping on the DVD preview anytime soon.

I have every issue out except for the January issue.. It's sold out.. -_-

As for the DVD always being from an ADV title is that ADV is helping bring New Type to the US by translating some of the original New Type Japan content to New Type USA. Have you noticed?

I personally like the photoshop 6/painter 7 tips in each issue!!!

I've been buying the Japanese Newtype for... at least a year now. Newtype USA pissed me off, overly bastardised and completely useless. A complete waste of money that could have been better spent on DVDs, Games, Alcohol or even a flash lunch... I'm tired, I'm sure I'll calm down in a few hours.
Then again... so is the other Newtype. I guess when you don't know what you're getting (I can't read this!) it doesn't seem like such a waste.

I'm not fluent in Japanese... somehow that doesn't stop me from getting it.

I would get the NewType USA, but it's too damn expensive... It’s got a good source of information, and the DVD is always nice... But it cost a lot.

I actually like Newtype usa especially its way better than Animerica which thinks that anime must conform to american political correctness.

I've been avoiding Newtype USA for its ADV biases, and picked up Japanese Newtype for a while instead...but even that's heavily slanted towards Bandai Japan/Emotion titles (do we REALLY need a fourth gundam seed cover or a third one for .hack or six chobits inserts?), so I've hopped ship to the Animage crowd. It doesn't have as much pretty artwork, but it DOES have a much wider variety of shows covered (ie I saw a two page spread for Spiral, which Newtype JP has pretty much blown over). Only catch is that it costs more. So it goes, I can live without it. 2 issues = 1 DVD =P
