What makes a AMV Veteran?

Typically, a veteran is one who has been in the field for a long while. Some people here have been making AMVs videos since the late 1990's, others have been into video editting in general since the early 80's. They also own me, but I digress.

Someone who's been making videos for over 2 years and has work that is recognizable by non-a-m-v.org goers.

Veteran amv maker?

Odd...

Well, I'd have to say that's reletive.

I guess a veteran is any AMV creator who has any other AMV creators' respect for them or their work.

Veterans are really a matter of reletivity to the perspective of those looking at it. Anyone new will look up to any AMV creator that offers them help. In a way, that makes the ones looked up to veterans from the newbie perspective.

People who have been around for a while base it on AMV accomplishments (not awards, but the creative works that others have made). Appreciation for the work of others develops as you watch their work. As they begin to respect that work, the creators of those works become veterans in their eyes.

So it's really about who is looking for a veteran. Is there some metric for determining a veteran? No. You can't draw a line at 4 videos or 2 awards or anything like that. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Good or bad I would say it's how long you've been in the game. Afterall, you are still a war vet even if all that happened is you shot yourself in the foot three seconds after you got out on the battlefield.

Now that’s the answer I was looking for. Your exactly right, Veterans come in all different positions, only as the Noobie sees them. There isn’t a universal way to tell if someone’s a Veteran or not. Very well said OtakuOutpost!

Well, also there’s a difference between a veteran and a well known veteran! I mean you can look like a Veteran in like a Noobie, but it means a hell of a lot more if you’re a Veteran to a wide viewing audience!

I see veterans as people who have fought in wars in the past. With this analogy, the amv creation wars might have been...

AMVWI (AMV war I):

Weapons:
Hand made cell animation

Notable Veterans:
Daicon Film with their Daicon II and IV opening animations

AMVWII:

Weapons:
2 vcrs

Notable Veterans:
Bobby "C-ko" beaver, Jeff Tatarek, Duane Jonson, Scott Melzer, Nic Neidenbach and so on....

AMVWIII:

Weapons: early digital, analogue capture, early effects

Notable Veterans:
Kevin Caldwell, Tim Park, Joe Croasdaile, Hsien Lee, Lee Thompson, Brad Demoss, Elizabeth Kirkindall and tons of others that I've failed to mention....
