This is a sad state of affairs we're in now. *Sigh* I can't believe i may be called to kill someone who doesn't have any arguement with me...i hate this...i hate it so very very much...america is supposed to show the world by example on how to treat your people and how to run a democracy...instead...we show the rest of the world how destroy other countries...how we don't care about the truly innocent in this dick waving contest...bahh...i'm going back to bed...it's too depressing to stay awake for the moment... :?
I doubt you'll have to be called to service, unless you're already in the military now.

I know this fight will be over rather quickly... I mean we do have a greater military power than Iraq... but that's hardly the point.

Many of the pro-war people I have heard from seem nuts (like the spokesman from Georgia who implied that all anti-war protestors are from California and are all lesbians and men with hairy armpits or the woman who claimed that anyone against the war should be found guilty of treason or all the people who just want a war because they want to see the explosions)

You're right... America should give a better example to the world then this and I don't feel our reasoning is strong enough for this conflict. We're just looking very bad.

Just wanted to comment.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

Duuh - Couldn't believe Americans would be such dull...

Indeed the new Iraq war is only the peak of the iceberg.
First of all things - worldwide protests are against the US government seemingly becoming more and more anti-democratic.
Since America claims the worldwide leadership and to be "the most democratic country", this means a betrayal of US' owns ideals.

Elections become more and more industry dependent leading almost to some sort of oligarchy - the current government for example is completely "oil powered" if you'd like to say so.
Treating allies like shit, spying them out, etc. also do one's stint...
Introducing new and powerful methods to contol people and trying to spread them all over the globe is of course very unpopluar, too.

In my opinion the whole development towards this already started short after the election. Bush only took the opportunity of September 11th.
The day was a tragedy for democracy, but not because of the terrorists as is now exposed...

Some good folks worked to save ANWR--for the time being. So the U.S. government isn't totally pro-oil development.

Not the whole government, but at least the executive power - the president and his staff.
But thats a common developement, all presidents since the 60s had their supporters who funded the election campaigns and has nothing to do with president Bush and his ministers in person.
