looking for an anime/manga

Post by CaTaClYsM » Thu Mar 20, 2003 1:23 am

forgot where I read it (damnit) but I remember it seemed to be like a darker style kenshin, he killed 3000 innocent people so now he was going to make up for it by killing 3000 evil people. any help would be nice.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

If it's a Manga, then you're probably talking about Blade of the immortal. Manji killed 100 policemen while he was on the run. However, after that, he was granted immortality by a mysterious old lady. After his sister dies, he makes a deal with her. She'll give him his mortality back if he kills 1000 evil people....
Kickass manga.

Er... "bloodworms".

Not so much immortality, more like wolverine's healing factor. And, he doesn't age, just like wolverine.

I don't think there are any plans to make it into an anime. As far as I know, at least.

Kickass manga.
Dang this show sounds like it kicks ass! I've heard the title is it by any chance stateside? Perhaps I saw it at my local comic shop when I go to buy comics. I know they have this Manga-ish thing called "Lone Wolf" which I've heard is extremely good. Has the Manga been translated into English?

It's not a show, as far as I know (haven't checked for a while, but there were no plans 6 months ago when I did).

Yes, it is being translated into English by Dark Horse and is called "Blade of the Immortal" in North America (in Japanese it's called "Mugen no Jyuunin"). It's about as different from Lone Wolf and Cub as you can get and still be about bad ass swordsmen/samurai/ronin, but I'd highly recommend it.

Actually I like and would recommend both and Dark Horse just finished republishing all 28 pocket-sized LW&C graphic novels. There's at least 11 Blade of the Immortal graphic novels out, as well as the monthly issues (I forget how high they've gone so far).

Alright, sounds like I've definitely seen it at my local comic book shop then. Like I said it sounded familiar since I've been thinking about buying "Lone Wolf and Cub" so I assume Blade of the Immortal was right next to it.

So they're very different and yet both good? They're both bad ass swordsmen/samurai/ronin and different? Interesting. I love Rurouni Kenshin, but I wouldn't go so far to say that it sounds anything like Blade of the Immortal. However, regardless, I have been interested in Samurai manga ever since (although I was a bit disappointed by the Revenge arc in Kenshin).

Are the pocket-sized versions any different from the originals and worth it?

Blado Of the Immortal is extremely good, if not particularly realistic. Lone wolf and cub has a dryness to it, because of the attention to historical accuracy the author gave it. Both are, however, two of my favorite titles.

And if possible, check out the Lone Wolf and Cub movies. They're really old, but they follow the manga almost exactly... and are pretty fun to watch.

I want a Katana...
