I've written fanfiction just for fun, and bought products from the internet, but i mean, a few feet from my home, there is an anime store, with all anime for the taking, its too tempting.
Hey, think of me as Robin Hood. I take the anime from Coorporate America and show it to the masses. :D

I'm so going to hell... and I'll take my anime with me.
I know this'll sound mean, but your points don't really justify brekaing the law. I mean do you go to the supermarket or a department store and just take something and say "I'll come back when I have money."? Like I said earlier, being poor is not justification to just take something that "I wouldn't have bought anyway." I mean you did want to see it enough to take it ne?

I'd also like to note that you aren't exactly stealing something like say food which is absolutely necessary for your existence (i.e. the Robin Hood point). We're talking about something which is A) a subculture and B) a hobby. To say that this hobby is important enough to get by any means necessary is preposterous. Perhaps AAA (Anime Addicts Anonymous? :))?

Don't get me wrong though, I do the same thing and show my friends anime. In fact, they in turn have shown people and I'm sure quite a few people have indirectly gotten into anime because of it. This is all great and all, but what's the point if none of them support the industry (including yourself). Given I do realize that some may buy the show, but I don't think a company would like it regardless of how many fans they get through your questionable acts. If they did, they would've just sent the Otakus with a lot of friends anime for free to show the masses and hence more consumers. Perhaps they should...hmmm?

Off-topic, but gee a lot of people like calling themselves houses (If you get this joke (thumbs up!). You are cool!) :)
Uh? Anime is not necessary to survive?

Not just anime, but movies and books too (those things at Barnes and Novels dont work  )
There are few animes I will pay for that I have respect for, such as Eva and Cowboy Bebop.
Well IMHO, a real otaku is one that supports the industry that he so loves. If you love anime so much, shouldn't you be paying the people who help make it? Your logic doesn't really equate to justifying stealing. Even if you're happy in the short-term, in the long-run you hurt yourself and others. You can say all you want about how one person doesn't make a difference, but then we could say the same thing about murdering just one person too right?

As for anime you respect? That doesn't logically justify it either. I believe in a previous thread (on the same topic) someone mentioned how anime was like insurance, you buy it even if you don't use it. In this case, you buy the anime to watch and if you don't like it...well...oh well. Live and learn. That's how this economy works...supply and demand.
Well Whose desicion is it anyway to decide the death of a person being wrong, i think it'd b fun to hunt each other down til nonexistance for one, well maybe not nonexistance but i'm sure i'll die if that day comes :P who's choice is it to say stopping world hunger and overpopulation is wrong? hell the hungry can kill the overpopulated then no longer be hungry, Survival of the fittest natures premature and overlooked law

Shoplifting also costs the store money (i.e. if something is out of stock or whatever, they have to PAY the distributor or supplier to get more, while not showing a profit for the missing items), which causes the store to usually increase its prices. Or beef up security.

This costs EVERYONE.

So try to curb your kleptomaniacal urges.

Not if one day everybody shoplifts from one store, next day a different one, while always keeping a legit non shoplifted store in hand, organized shoplifting is a thing of the future but this is what i imagine looking like, one store then another and another, like dominoes

*flicks his finger and watches the whole line fall down and the one dominoe to the side still standing*

Big corporations like suncoast and the like it doesn't even effect them, they make so mucy senseless profit off of advertising for magazines, selling toys and overcharging pornos,

I dont think one tiny DVD is going to affect a whole store... unless I form a special opereation where various people come into the store at different times a day to different stores, take the metal bar off... somebody else comes in and takes the DVDs... and we end up swimming in a pool full of DVDs... and soon open our own little store in the flea market, where we'll sell the DVDs for half price and keep all the profit... and when we run out of stock... go to other stores and take more. Hell, not even Anime, CDs and movies too, after all, the alarm doesnt even go off at the corner store, then we'll make so much money we'll ditch to Mexico where we'll take siestas at the beach with frozen margaritas listening to Megumi Hayashibara...
Heh... jk... where would we get so many pocket knives anyways? It's not like we can take tiny little blades from the hardware store... right?
If we don't have money for cookies, we might as well die!

To buy or to Dl ... that is the question

Post by Propyro » Wed Mar 19, 2003 10:41 pm

i do both. Example ...i downloaded teh Evangelion series ... i liked it, now i'm saving up for when HMV gets the Boxset i ordered ... Ok sure i downloaded and burned Trigun ... at teh moment there is no way in hell that i could spend 370$ on the box set ... so i'll just keep the burnt CD's till i can. Plus when you buy anime, you support the company and allow them to produce more anime, so your right, it is a big circle. plus if you buy it in DVD format you can get all kinds of nice DVD goodies, such as comentary that will explain to you what in the hell just happened.

$370? You can get Trigun for A LOT less. Unless you're looking at Region 2 Japanese discs.

Please refer to the part about "we could say the same thing about murdering just one person too right?" What makes you so special that you are the exception? The one who can steal and screw the rest of us over. There are thousands of people like you and it accumulates into higher prices for the rest of us. If you like anime, it's almost inherent that you want to support. I question how much you truly love anime when your actions are really just hurting the industry you love.
