Buying saves time, and if ur good at 5 finger discounts with heavy mall of america security its a nice price 2, then take 5 mins drive home and ur set, other wise u can waste all day dling a subtitled poor halfassed quality AVI or RM file from a asian server hoping its good and turns out all blocky or just horrid after you edit it into ur vid, why sacrifice quality of all things, the music yeah, mp3 download is nice and crisp to the ears, but downloaded video usually isnt worth my time

the 5 finger discound is just wrong. My policy is generly I will dl anime that I can not find (Battle Angel, it been discounted so I just dl) or anime that has not been released in the US yet. If I really like it I go out and buy it when it comes out. I plan on buying megan EXE just because I like it and I dl the first 27 episods. I just need to get hte money first. I need to buy the Tenchi OVAs, an Tenchi Universe first. (that 400) plus Transforerm season 2 and 3 (that anohter 150) plus the DS9 dvds that come out (it 110 per season. 7 seasons) you get the idea. I get the DVD of megaman pieve by piece like i doing with my others

I really dont have much money myself, so as a big otaku myself, I will get anime through whatever means necessary
Not just anime, but movies and books too (those things at Barnes and Novels dont work  )
There are few animes I will pay for that I have respect for, such as Eva and Cowboy Bebop.

Well IMHO, a real otaku is one that supports the industry that he so loves. If you love anime so much, shouldn't you be paying the people who help make it? Your logic doesn't really equate to justifying stealing. Even if you're happy in the short-term, in the long-run you hurt yourself and others. You can say all you want about how one person doesn't make a difference, but then we could say the same thing about murdering just one person too right?

As for anime you respect? That doesn't logically justify it either. I believe in a previous thread (on the same topic) someone mentioned how anime was like insurance, you buy it even if you don't use it. In this case, you buy the anime to watch and if you don't like it...well...oh well. Live and learn. That's how this economy works...supply and demand.

Hey, once I get a job I'll gladly pay for my anime. I know that one person does make a difference, so I support the industry whichever way I can. I've converted some of my friends into anime. Hen I metnioned Cowboy Bebop, they thought it was some gay cowboy porn... dunno why.
I've written fanfiction just for fun, and bought products from the internet, but i mean, a few feet from my home, there is an anime store, with all anime for the taking, its too tempting.
Hey, think of me as Robin Hood. I take the anime from Coorporate America and show it to the masses. :D

I'm so going to hell... and I'll take my anime with me.

I know this'll sound mean, but your points don't really justify brekaing the law. I mean do you go to the supermarket or a department store and just take something and say "I'll come back when I have money."? Like I said earlier, being poor is not justification to just take something that "I wouldn't have bought anyway." I mean you did want to see it enough to take it ne?

I'd also like to note that you aren't exactly stealing something like say food which is absolutely necessary for your existence (i.e. the Robin Hood point). We're talking about something which is A) a subculture and B) a hobby. To say that this hobby is important enough to get by any means necessary is preposterous. Perhaps AAA (Anime Addicts Anonymous? :))?

Don't get me wrong though, I do the same thing and show my friends anime. In fact, they in turn have shown people and I'm sure quite a few people have indirectly gotten into anime because of it. This is all great and all, but what's the point if none of them support the industry (including yourself). Given I do realize that some may buy the show, but I don't think a company would like it regardless of how many fans they get through your questionable acts. If they did, they would've just sent the Otakus with a lot of friends anime for free to show the masses and hence more consumers. Perhaps they should...hmmm?

Off-topic, but gee a lot of people like calling themselves houses (If you get this joke (thumbs up!). You are cool!) :)

I buy... namely because of the folllowing factors...
1.)I use Dial-up, ADSL is still not worth the fuss if it'll be capped at 8Gb
2.)I work and have problems with impulse buying (I spent $135 on my BGC 2040 DVDs... last August! and still haven't watched them)
3.)My anime club fixes me up with fan-subs anyway, no real need to get them, besides source
4. partly 2) I have an xbox, and not that many games are coming out that I feel are worth the money. so I spend it on anime.
5.) no wait, I think that's it.

On a similar note, would you pay full price ($30) for the Azumanga Daioh Movie... It is Azumanga Daioh... but.

I belong to the camp that argues that clubs should really be the only ones with access to fansubs...
