Ah well, this is how it always goes, isn't it?
New Forums usually start off cool (Even this one was real cool at the start with new and old creators posting), but as they get popular and are around longer, thease kind of issues will always happen...human nature...

Actually Otaku I am even angrier at phade than the mods. THey are simply an extention of his authority and if he trusts them so much them he should be held jsut as acountable as him. So Phade is just as responsible for "I ate penis and it was great!" as the mods are.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

How dificult is it to just kill a thread or a post? and if someone is given repeated warnings there is nothing wrong with a banning. But tell me furry, you ever gone and changed someones thread title to "I ate penis and it was great!"
Maybe, but rembemer that some decisions that are made as mods may not be aggreed upon by everyone no matter how right it may seem... It the same issue that haunts AMC contest coordinators..A decision is made and someone disagrees.

Now I'm not saying the Mods are right or wrong in what they do, just that it's impossible as a mod to keep eberyone happy..Sooner or later someone will disagree with a decision and then what....

As they are an extension of authority, he is accountable. As for their actions, he cannot be held directly responsible. You don't blame the chief of police when one of his subordinates beats a cuffed man. You request the chief perform his duties and make sure that such actions are rectified in an equitable fashion.

And you have to consider we still only have what we've seen and SpPanda's side of the argument here. There may be more to this issue than we know.

I don't like to post on such threads as these, but the chat room has been talking about it all day and i decided to read it.

What the hell is happening?!?!?! Panda gets banned for doing nothing? and the first time he gets banned, after 47 posts about roms, no one tells him that he's not allowed to post about them? that's crazy. ok so maybe if it was him just spamming, no one told him to stop or face a penalty? I see nothin wrong here. He tries to bring an old topic back (i never did read the first one) to get some last comments out, and he gets insulted (quite bad i hear) and banned. WTF!?! i'm confused. :?

Ok, on no other message board that I've ever been on has had "Invisible" mods to "protect" them. Honestly. And I've been on FAR rowdier message boards than this. It all comes down to "Why do they need protection?" They wouldn't need protection if they were honest and open about their posts. It's much easier to mod a post to say "so and so eats dick! and likes it!" if you remain unnamed, rather than a tangible figure. The tangibility also forces accountability, as sad as that is.

Agreed, however being a mod sometimes involves having to do nasty actions like banning people. That doesn't make many friends when you do such things, even for just reasons. Seeing how so many people on this list do meet face to face at conventions there is a small degree of protection needed. It is not all that unlikely that an unruley person who truely deserves to get banned may be suited to attempt an attack on a moderator if given the opportunity.

DCemulation
Doom9
hell even Psychlo anime has visible mods
and the samefor Panda's boards

The mods want to be invisible so they cannot be held acountable for their wrongs. by the same token. We should be invisible so WE can't have consequences. But thats not right is it? we do somethign wrong we should be punished right?
Same goes for the people in authority.

then the mods can get new accounts. big deal, there are ways to have visible mods without peopel fining out who they are in RL.
