I'm not trying to insult or antagonize you by saying this, but why haven't you left yet? You seem to get more displeasure than pleasure by coming here. I'm just wondering what you come here for.CaTaClYsM wrote:and btw, the person that LEAVES is the smart one sicne he has the sense to realize the people insulting him are cock mongers, the person stupid enough to stick it out doesnt realize he'll be stickign it out forever since people like that don't change.
Am I the only one getting sick of the AMV scene?

because radicalEd0, Clara, SpPanda, Fluxmieste, and bascialy all the members I like still post here, If everyone were like NDW and the inviso mods believe me I WOULD leave. But since there are still constructive people out there I'll just stay and deal with the trolls on a flame by flame basis.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

I really thought about not bothering to post. It amazes me how fast things go to flaming, whining, spamming, bitching about the mods, etc. when people are trying to have a useful discussion.
I'll start off by agreeing with OmniStrata here. There *are* good editors still around. I'll then disagree with him completely and say that leaving is a perfectly valid option. The AMV ML isn't usually bogged down with the issues facing the forums, neither are many of the creator specific forums. This one just happens to be the most visible and accessible.
A better example to counter Omni's example about mugging would be a party. If I don't like what everyone's doing/saying/not talking to for some reason, it would be perfectly normal for me to leave, especially if trying to strike up other conversation proves futile.
So what do I think about the whole "scene"? I think there's a lot of nice, interesting people who don't even bother with this site. I find them sitting in front of me at con screenings or anime clubs and not here. There's a reason for that, I leave it up to you to figure it out yourself.
I'll say this, though. The scene, especially the online component is getting younger. It'll be interesting to see what happens when these people get a few years on them and have to start acting like grownups. Maybe I'm just getting old, but things have changed and I'm not sure if it's for the better. I'm not ready to leave yet myself, but I could do with another break from the site to see if things get better in a few months.
In the meantime, I've given up reading all of the OT forums (other than Heads Up). It's just not worth my time to deal with threads about liking cheese or doing nasty things to newbies who don't deserve that sort of mistreatment. There's no reason to be a bully on the playground of the org just because you can. Maybe it's time to lobby for more moderator power (and no, I am not a mod).
Time to go back to Doctor Who.

in what way is staying around and taking abuse without fighting back strong when one could either LEAVE and not waste their time with the pain or fight back and make the other people stop?Pierrot Le Fou wrote:Of course I would argue that those who stay are the stronger lot, but I
suppose the opposite is a valid argument as well.

Hmm, this is the third board I've seen have a drama outbreak within a one week timespan. I wonder if it's Spring + hormones, or what...
I don't see how anyone can sanction the changing of posts to be insulting in SpPanda's threads, whether they were about to be deleted or not. Not that he didn't provoke the mods, but still, just locking/deleting should be enough.
I wonder, too, if this will provoke another closure of the board, and what it will look like if it returns. Maybe nothing will happen if none of Phade's personal friends/people he highly values get highly upset or insulted by this thread.
I know I'm an unrespected nobody on this board, but still, I've been making an effort to be calmer and more polite. If a particular post or poster really annoys me, I just try to avoid replying if I don't think I can do so in a civil manner. That's all any of us, save Phade and the mods, can do to make this a better place.
SpPanda, you may have some valid points to be upset about, but you do realize that continuing to pound away at this is eventually going to cause one of the mods or Phade to crack, and ban you again out of sheer irritation, don't you? Perhaps that is what you want, in order to make your point.
Ah, well. This all is nothing new under the sun...

I agree about that, but now lets say EVERYONE was like that, and there was no fun to be had since they wont allow you to. Then what?
