Why the hell is it so hard to make a original Idea now..
I has taken me an entire month to come up with a Idea that seems like no one has touched yet......Is there only so many ways to make a amv now-a-days?

It helps to not only listen to a lot of different music, but to watch a lot of different anime.
Hoorj for broadband and mpeg 4
I find watching other AMV's I really like inspires me to come up with ideas for my own vids. That and large amounts of alchohol.
Heh, I need to improve my skills quickly, I've got enough original ideas waiting to be done to fill every line on a page in a college ruled notebook.

it's everything we'd dream about..
i wanted you to know..
i'm hangin' up my eisel.
push in nine to five.
worry bout the bills tonight..
i wanted you to know..
i wanna be your shadow.
mystery is gone.
so bring back the sun..
bury this hate.
build with love..
mysterey's gone..
so bring back the sun..

I hardly ever download AMVs anymore; got tired of seeing the same things done over and over in different wrappings.leathelanime wrote:I<t> has taken me an entire month to come up with a Idea that seems like no one has touched yet......<Are> there only so many ways to make a amv now-a-days?
My suggestion: break the rules...and prepare to lose. Contests, that is.
I hope that's not cheap advice since I'm following it myself on my current project...taking a diehard rule of AMV creation and beating it to death. Maybe I'll send the finished work to AWA. Maybe I'll banish it to a dark closet.

I'm thinking that AMVs have now become a "genre". Which is as much a curse as a benefit. This may have been inevitable given the source material. But it seems that virtually all AMVs are made in the same style (with very few exceptions (e.g. "Shameless Rock")), and that audiences expect them to be that way.jbone wrote:Everything which can be done has been done. Who cares if your idea is 100% original as long as you do it in style? 8)

It's quite ironic that you mention Shameless Rock in this context, given that practically every section was stolen from amvs or media I'd seen before. It's very very referential. Maybe it's different because it takes from lots of different places. *shrugs*TaranT wrote:But it seems that virtually all AMVs are made in the same style (with very few exceptions (e.g. "Shameless Rock")), and that audiences expect them to be that way.
Personally I dont really worry about having an original idea or not... although I am lucky that recently all my ideas have been strange enough to be original. I don't think there's anything quite like Arima Shinjikun out there (or at least I havent seen anything like it) but it isn't about attempting at originality, it's just about visualising your concept. That's all that really matters.
In any case, doing something that hasnt been done is easy - but doing something that hasnt been done that people will like... that's another matter

Well, yes and no. Many people say that a video is original when it uses obscure anime or a never heard song. I am not of the same opinion though, but it's true that you can approach originality from various points. You can have an original concept behind the video for instance, or put your effort in an innovative editing style or visualization.
Is that easy? For me, the hardest is to create a completely new concept. As jbone said, we need a complete paradigm shift to have that (by interpreting this "Anime + Music = AMV" equation in some different way).
Playing with visualization and editing can be easier... and there have been quite a number of videos exploring this field (look at "This is DBZ Life" from Scott Melzer and "Liberation of Memories Past" by MeriC for instance)
I completely agree with that. Forcing a new, "original" idea usually pushes you in the boundaries of the field... creators may like it but general public probably won't. In this area we are still in the "cool anime + cheap humor + known song = Good video" world.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:but doing something that hasnt been done that people will like... that's another matter
But anyway good luck with your search for originality... and let me know when you come out with something fresh

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
