So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

What's even more pathetic is that they even have a webpage for it...FirestormXIII wrote:Ohhhh yes, the nigh-foolish pastime of 'n00b killing'. Thanks for reminding me, I'd forgotten completely about it...since I think it's dumb and I pretty much ignore it. The funniest part about it (if there is anything funny about it) is that it's basically noobs doing it to other noobs. Makes you wonder... But at any rate to me that exemplifies the immature element to the forum that does drive people away.
This is one of the few things I don't really like about the forum but mostly I enjoy this place. I don't really see it falling apart or become a place to be 'sick' of unless you've lost interest in the reason the forum exists in the first place.

I think you all take this a bit too seriously... I mean, the "AMV community" stuff. This is not the real life, it doesn't matter if a bunch of people are having fun with some newbies and "play" with them (most of the newbies seem to take that with a smile...), it doesn't matter if some people are stupid when they talk on the internet,...Corran Productions wrote:What's even more pathetic is that they even have a webpage for it...FirestormXIII wrote:Ohhhh yes, the nigh-foolish pastime of 'n00b killing'.

Whenever something goes wrong here for somebody, I'd suggest them to have a break for a few days/weeks/years and to come back later.
If people here were able to understand my mother language (french), I'd argue more, but it's really too difficult to translate what I think.

Well you got your point acroos quite well. BUt another hting to remember is that this behavior isn't dangerious so much as downright rude to the people that are 'being killed'.

I agree. I really hate when that happens.dokidoki wrote:Yes, but that still happens now. Let's see:FirestormXIII wrote:The one thing that you don't hear in the reminiscing about the old site is how rudely newcomers were treated in the forums
1. People get annoyed at "hi, I'm new!" posts.
2. Phade sets up a forum in part for that.
3. People start to say "hi" there, but some people start this stupid "n00b killing" stuff. I find the graphic descriptions used appalling. (the lack of courtesy more than the descriptions themselves) If someone new walks into a room at a party, do you go up to them and say, "hey n00b I rip your guts out with my +3 blade of righteous n00b slashing lolololol!!!"
You want to role play? Go to a bloody D&D game.

On another note:
Maybe I'll catch a lot of flack for this, but I really hate the off-topic forums. Sorry. It's just sometimes I think I wouldn't mind posting in there, but it seems full of crap and I don't want to start a topic because I know it will turn into spam. Maybe I'm wrong, but it definately keeps me away from that part of the forums. Maybe it does others, too. So I just stay up here where all the amv type forums are.

the forums are there for a reason, so people can use them. And as far as spam is concerend, the inviso-mods are around to make sure that NEVER EVER happens. Any thread that looks remotely like spam gets shot down in it's tracks.

My take:
I have a lot of friends here. There are also a lot of people I don't really know. In addition, there are new people coming here everyday. I enjoy myself here, and even though I may not always agree or like what I read, I'd like to think I'll always be welcome here and that I want to come here.
I mainly spend time at another forum because it houses a smaller, closer-knit group of friends. It's not as busy as this forum is, so there isn't as much stuff to keep up with as here.
As for the people who bad mouth the MODs: Just can it. No one is forcing you to visit this site. Phade, who in case you forgot owns this site, has set forth rules for his forums. He chose the moderators to help enforce those rules because he is not omnipotent. I have no problem at all with the way the MODs conduct themselves. If you don't like it, don't bitch about it or try and revolt in the forum; it ain't gonna work. There are many members that have started their own forums. There isn't anything stopping you from doing the same.
The real fun and community is at the conventions. You get to meet the actual people and interact with them. I'm much more reserved in real life, and usually not as funny
It's great to meet the people behind the personas. It reminds us that everyone here is human. If you want to know what this is all about, go to a big convention and meet some people that you've talked to in the forum. Remember, the conventions have been aroung much longer than this site has.
