Your review of sppanda's 02 (which you later edited) makes me think you belong in said group o_o I guess you were just upset about almost losing to it, or you think you did lose but since he won the previous award they didn't want to give it to him again as the host said "you already won one" to him.

It's funny because I thought you were very humble in the acceptance speech, but then I saw your review... I believe that among a few other things sparked Sppanda's very long AMV attitudes thread.

I dunno what it is, but something about the community here makes me feel less than welcome.
I can see that, yeah...

But still you have to look at the large population of members here and the small amount of real posters. If there is something (or someone) that is a constant pain, please don't judge the whole scene badly. In a way, there are cliques I guess.

But if the whole amv making community was so negative, I think cons would be a much more hostile place. Then again, I have never been to the after con panel (of any con) to hear people whine so maybe there is.

Still, even saying that...I still like it here for the most part. There is really such a small percentage of actual amv related content here in the forums anyway.

Ok, I was never around when the community was still small, so I really don't know how tightly knit it was back then and how flame-free and mature the community was. Anyways, with that said, I know just how bad it gets in the forums and the chatroom (I practically live there), but this stereotyping of immaturity is inexcusable. Sure, there are select few that go off like they're on crack or something, but with the community getting larger, it's bound to pick up more and more different types of creators and fans.

The question is, how do you deal with the change. Complaining about how bad things are getting doesn't solve it. It's not just with this community, but society in general. It's like trying to mix college students with middle schoolers. I've noticed that many of the older creators have strayed from this site, but some others have learned to embrace it. I'm pretty sure that it's not that immaturity and arrogance din't exist in this community before, it has just multiplied with the amount of users on the site. I'm pretty sure many creators are just as wholesome and fun-loving as the older bunch, but they are just not as loud as these 'kids' that you mentioned.
I agree with Otaku Outpost... the AMV scene has degraded into.. just junk. You think the forum is bad, try going to the Chat room. <sighs>
I particularly do not agree to this statement. Sure, at times the room becomes crazy, but you deal with it. A lot of people in there are well-mannered most of the time and are able to converse intelligently, but many people just want to go in there to chat with people and have fun doing so. I say this cause by saying that it's junk says a lot about the people that hang out there, especially me. Anyways, I've forgotten what I've typed by now so, umm.. ya.. just ignore this. |:

Maybe the forums are becoming junk in your point of view because many of the "famous" creators from the "old" times have decided to leave the "community".

I don't know how you feel, but for many people it is difficult to see that something they believed wouldn't work properly without them, well...still works.
You're speaking like me when I see more and more people interested in Anime. I was persuaded to be part of a small "elite" group but it gets bigger and bigger, I do not feel "unique" anymore.

Also, maybe the new creators would be more firendly if the "older" ones were more active on the forums, to tell them what can be said, what shouldn't be said, etc... but most of the posts I've seen from the older creators are like "this place is becoming shit, I'll leave soon"...and this is really depressing to see that these persons prefer to leave rather than helping the "community" to become a better place. Without help, the newbies can't learn anything...

Uh, it's 2:15 am here, so forgive my english, and don't feel offensed, there are lots of things I'd love to say here (to be more clear) that I don't know how to translate to english.

Where did that comment come from?

As far as my review of Spanda's 02 is concerned, it's my opinion. That's where it came from. I reviewed every video I could remember from the AX competition after rewatching each. It was not done to spite him nor out of revenge for "almost having lost". That is a rediculous accusation. I could care less about winning or awards, I just want my videos to be shown to audiences. I used a word during the review that I could understand him getting upset over, having called a technique he used during the video "ameturish". I was pointing out (in my own way) that the technique he used was a cheap way to create visual timing and he should avoid it in the future. I did not call his video ameturish, only the technique he employed. His response was to flame me. In hind sight I agreed that said comment was unwarranted so I edited the post to remove the inflamatory comments.

He however continued the retribution upon me. I let the issue drop and now it is all under the bridge, I hope.

As for the scores I placed on his video, I stand by them. On my scale he received an 8.17 where videos like Memories Dance come in at an 8.86 and Engel comes in at 9.29.

NME, you made what- four? posts in this thread?

One of them actually contained something resembling sensible commentary, the rest were pure shit. That sort of thing is exactly the sort of thing that makes this place less hospitable to people.

I don't really expect to change your mind, but try to put a little more thought into your actions. You've shown you can make relevant posts when you feel like it.

Perhaps this would be a better place if you and people like you "felt like it" more often.

I find myself drifting away a little more all the time, but this place is too useful to give up on completely.

Sadly, the notion of removing the offtopic forums and the non-amv creating posters that was floated around after the last big drama here is starting to sound better all the time.

OtakuOutpost wrote:This has been building up for a while, but this site - and especially this forum - convinces me that more and more AMV creators are little more than whiners.

I remember the old days, when people were just cool. The people like Joe, Kevin, Hsien, Brad, Nic, Tim, and Vlad. Now it seems like the whole scene has been taken over by little kids and is overrun with perversion, ignorance, arrogance, and immaturity.

The more I read, the more depressed I become with the bickering, the arguments, and the holier than thou attitudes I see here. The AIM chat room is particularly bad.

This site is a great resource, but I miss the days when it was little more than a database of videos and links. Things on this site have become way too personal.

Tony, that's the Corruption of Mainstream. As soon as the youth culture suddenly begins absorbing the latest 'fad', it goes without saying that everybody and their mother would suddenly take notice of it and offer some kind of opinion, whether bias, racially unfounded, or just plain stupid. Hell, ANN just posted a news clip that the game show Jeopardy had a question about Anime - pathetic, maybe but not very surprising. Even the slang 'otaku' is now in the dictionary along with 'anime' and a whole bunch of others.

As to your immediate concern regarding the AMV community, it comes with the territory. Since we've grown, the majority of people are uninitiated to this whole anime thing, even less the Music Video genre. So you are bound to feel like the quality of conversations on the forums and AIM have dropped dramatically. (The new blood is incredibly thin)

Personally, I try no to think about it and just concentrate on why I started doing AMVs in the first place.
