I really hate how you stereotype Japan here. I doubt 'Japan' as a people/government has much affect on how the production of anime comes about. Maybe something more like, how could that dirty director produce these images?!'. As for the robot love and such, I've got no problem, as long as it's not like tin can humping tin can. Skin....

Now im not sterotypeing japan and you may have a point that the directors are the sick bastards, all im trying to say is I dont like it when you have someone perfect good right next to you thats totaly human

If you really think about it this issue is covered in Chobits (the relationship between the pastry baker and his old persocon) and I totally agree with the conclusions that they came up with.

I also forgot to add:

I would take a robot who knew what love is as well as how to be kind over a human who didn't know real love if it bit her on the ass (no matter how hot she was). Like I said a couple of posts ago, I matters not who or what you fall in love with just that those feelings are true to your heart. I bleieve the quote is "love conquers all"

Then again, thay also say that love is but a biological mechanism meant to insure the survival of our offspring.

But that's just cynical ol' me.

I am looking at this little debate not from a sexual point of view but an emotional one. Where as it is true that love usually leads to sex and the reason we have sex (well one of) is to reproduce. I look at love as a way to feel the void in our souls. All humans have a void of some kind and we yern to complete and sometimes love is a way to feel that void. I know that if you look at this debate from the point of view of people having sexual relations with robots, then you think its wrong and I agree (for the most part). But like I said love is love just as long as it is true.

There are two whole different debates here...
First, the one of "can a machine be considered human/emotional/living?"

Lets leave the one on the biological aspects of "love" aside for now, just for the sake of argument.

The answer to this thread depends on what you think (or are convinced of) about the first debate.

The funny thing is that i never spent a day in a psych class ... damn, i listen too much. But yea, it could also be like that ... making an awesome car, a machine that is totaly under your control, and thus making it an extension of "yourself"... of i think thats how it would work... danm i dont even know what i'm ranting about any more, i hate when this happens ... <sulks off>
oh yes because of course women never do things like that right? *ahem* push up bras, breast implants, press on nails, eyelashes, etc..*ahem* of course i guess a lot of this may have been before freude's time, that or he was an idiot.
well i do remember reading that freude couldn't understand women for the life of him, and yes, some of the specific things you mentioned were way past freudes time, but i think they still had the problem with the painfully ight corssets ... no wait that was in the victorian era ... which was some time befor freude ... danm, i'm not sure what the women had to show off with and use as extensions of them selves ... prehaps a rich husband at freudes time? But as for calling him an idiot, your not alone, lots of people thought he was a nut job for suggesting that infants were programmed with basic sexual drive, and that all men have an Odepheus complex (that we want to kil our fathers and sleep with our mothers). Freude also went and said that people often had quite ugly intentions burried in toeir subconcious ... lots of people didn't like him for that stuff. When your shown a truth that you don't like it's usualy kinda natural to hate it.

Ok, Sigmund Freud was a quack. Over 90% of his theories have been disproved in the 70 years since they were introduced. I'm not gonna even go into the fact that he was a cokehead who, in his own words, said "I find some of my best ideas while under the influence of cocaine." I don't know if any of you have ever lived with or have been around a cokehead for any extended period of time, but those ideas that seem excellent to them are absurd to the sober world. I like big guns and large/fast cars, and I and my sexual partners have no problem with the size of my wang. Celes Victoria carries an EXTREMELY large gun... Does she have a problem with the size of her penis? :D :D :D

Ok, here's one for you. What if someone had terminal brain cancer, and they digitally translated their consciousness into a computer based brain? Are they still human? Or, on the same note, what if a self-aware computer based brain was raised from "birth" as a human? I guess that's what it all comes down to, is the ability to be self-aware, not just acting on programmed vectors and set parameters. What would it be like to be told you were human your whole life, and then finally learn you were nothing but semiconductors and wiring? Would you suddenly turn into a analytical cold machine? I don't think so. You would always consider yourself human, just "different".

Just some thoughts.
