Mainichi condemned for implied sexuality in Gundam Seed (2003-03-13 14:27:54)
Implied Love Affair between 16 year old captain and 15 year old girl broadcast at 6pm

The Japanese Commission for better broadcasting has released an announcement stating that TV viewers complained about a scene in episode 16 of Gundam Seed. The scene in question shows the 16 year old protagonist, Kira, putting on his pants while a 15 year old female character is in bed in the same room. While there was no actual scene depicting any sex, the scene is thought to have suggested a sexual relationship between Kira and his 15 year old colleague. Many of the complainst had to do with such a scene being broadcast on TV at 6pm, as well as the widespread belief that Anime is for children (even in Japan).

Mainichi responded to the criticism stating that it should have given more careful consideration to the episode before airing it.

Hrmm, I thought Frey was older than Kira actually. In any case Frey needs to die though, because she's such a bitchy whore. It's still very unclear who Kira'll end up with even after episode 22. Since he's got in-roads with just about all the main female characters. My money's on Kagari, they seemed to be really connecting now and Kira met her before he met Frey initially. Yeah it's very soap operay this particular Gundam series, but I'd rather watch it than a real soap opera.

Considering the age of consent in japan is 13, I highly doubt that a relationship of two consenting adults is going to cause any problems on television.

Also, I don't think I need to point out that Berserk aired on television there, and featured tentacle rape in the last episode.

True, true. I'm not really into Gundam, but after seeing some episodes (up to 20) of Gundam Seed I'm starting to like it... Gundam Seed's starting to grow on me unlike the other Gundam series out there.
