Who here can sing?

Post by SS5_Majin_Bebi » Thu Mar 13, 2003 1:52 am

Ok, how are you all? Good? Good.

To begin.
I can sing. I can sing fairly well. My goal is to sing as well as Chester Bennington (Lead Singer, Linkin Park) Dave Draiman (Lead Singer, Disturbed) Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) Scott Stapp (Creed) and so on.

Im close, I'm really close. The highest I can hit currently is the second lot of the bridge of "In The End" (LP) Where Ches screams out "I've put my trust in you" etc etc.

I'd like some tips on how to improve my singing voice so i can reach my full potential (music runs in the family, plus i love singing)

O and even though this'l probably get me insulted, I can sing boy band music almost perfectly.

Just tips from people who are really good singers, there has to be some of you in here. No flames, please? If (when) i start a band, i'll credit yas as my assistance in reaching my goals? Howz that?

I'm not a singer. lol

I end up embarrassing myself. I enjoying lip syncing to music, but that's about it. ^_^

Or humming. That's always fun. ^_^

this is slowly moving in the right direction.....

One night i tried to sing "Crawling"

The verses, i nailed to a tree.

The chorus, i nailed to a crucifix.

In other words > Verses

>Chorus

Baaaad......

So i had to drop an octave. Same note, only a register lower.
So, ive experienced shame and embarrasment because somethings out of my current vocal range. You should try singing, Anime Jedi. its good fun!

O, thats the point i want to be able to reach : To be able to sing "Crawling" and not look like im trying to stop my nuts creeping up into my thoracic cavity, and to sound really good at the same time.

I used to be in my church's worship team as a female vocalist. I haven't taken any formal singing lessons however but most members of my youth group said I seem to have a natural talent but I wouldn't consider going public with it or anything. There's three things I try to keep in mind most when singing, first is to put as much emotion and emphasis on vowel sounds as they are the more 'musical' sounds of words. Second is to take very deep breaths and open your mouth as wide as possible and sing from your stomach so that you can hold notes for a long time. Moving your head can also help boost your emphasis. Don't mind about how silly you might look while doing these things as the vibrato and sounds you can produce with these techniques can be awesome. The third thing is to have fun with the song, to be able to improvise and play along with song shifts. Sometimes our guitarist would put in a few extra riffs, the drummer will alter the beat just a little, or the keyboarder may increase or lower the volume of his notes for effect. Your voice is like an instrument and being able to alter it so that it blends, or stands out from the other instruments can create fun and unique emphasis on particular words or notes that no one else may have thought of before. Don't be afraid of trying different things, just have fun with it!

The most awesome vocalist I've ever heard however, has to be ryuichi kawamura. He's able to put so much emphasis on a few sung syllables and can hold them for entire scales. A few other J-Rock artists can do it as well but his voice and his facial expressions make it somehow more beautiful and majestic. To me anyways. It's strange though, when starting out as a vocalist for Luna Sea he did a lot of crazy vocal screaming that was impressive too but almost a polar opposite of his current mellower style. If I were a male vocalist I'd want to be able to sing like he can.
