Aspect ratio changing?

Post by Bushido Philosopher » Fri Mar 07, 2003 6:33 pm

Looking on in some videos, I notice that the DVD had a little extra black space that was encoded with it, sometimes even both top & and bottom as well as the sides.

So should I clip those black parts and change it to 16:9 (or whevet it should be in) or should I try to encode it with whatever size it is when those black parts are clipped?

Crop it definitely - it will only make it harder to encode otherwise.

After that, it probably would be wise to resize to 16:9 to fix the pixel aspect ratio difference.

So, in short - yes :)

Well ya see, the thing is that I'm sorta reluctant to since it's such a big clipping on the sides. Up and own I would have no prob, but cropping tons of sides is like.....well, different. And by a lot I mean like 15 or more on each side (this was on Card Captor Sakura Moive released here recently).

I think AD means only crop the black parts.

If it's for a con, then don't clip it - it will help with overscan (which is one of the reasons the side ones are there anyway)

If it's for an online distribution then clip away.

Yah well I know what you're both saying it's just that I feel like I'm messing it up or something. But on the other hand it may be that Pioneer somehow messed up.

I've only found this on the Card Captor Sakura Movie.
And sorry I can't give a screenshot, no webspace.

You'll also find it on End of Eva.
