Can anyone recommend a good one? I've seen Everquest but am not impressed. I've played Neverwinter nights........It's alright but being the anime buff that I am, I place a lot of weight on visual content as well as development. I guess I'm trying to find a game that has a great RP base and still delivers a good sensorial enjoyment factor.

Difficult. The actual roleplaying elements in most mmorpgs is weak at best. Personally I've never seen anyone roleplay in Everquest and a friend of mine has only seen it happen once. As far as eye candy goes I think Everquest with Shadows of Luclin is about as good as you're going to get at this point.

If you can get past the graphical limitations I know that there are some very good roleplaying guilds in good ol' Ultima Online. There's also Asheron's Call, but I can't say that I know anything about it really.

Shadowbane might be what you're looking for. Emphasis on "might". It's still in beta and the graphical engine has fallen behind the times while it's been in development. However, the system they're developing where the players can form cities, armies, and whatnot seems like it might promote some serious roleplay since the outcome actually matters. Only time will tell, but I've got hope for it.
When I become an Evil Overlord my Legions of Terror will be an equal-opportunity employer. Conversely, when it is prophesied that no man can defeat me, I will keep in mind the increasing number of non-traditional gender roles.

hmmmm, there was one called tradewinds or some shit like that which was anime based (anime type animation, anime type characters ect...) i mean it was 2-D but it was awsome when i played it and it looked great for an online only game... i dunno if it's still around or what kuz yea it's been awhile o_O but if you mean that you want a blazing 3-D graphics giant than yea, it prolly isn't for you, but if your looking for solid graphics and good gameplay with an anime feel, check it out...

Umm... I'd probably say if you're looking for one you can actually RP in then Dark Age Of Camelot on one of the RP servers is probably the closest thing you'll get to it. Other than that, I'd probably say real Role Playing for graphical MMORPG's is pretty scarce.

If you really want to RP go find a nice text based game. I'll recommend Gemstone III and DragonRealms, because they both have a pretty large player base. http://www.play.net

There are some interesting Graphical RPG's that do enforce Role Playing. If you're looking for something a little smaller than the mainstream you might want to take a look at company called Nexon. Thier games actually have a sort of Anime feel to them, but the graphics aren't nearly as good as Everquest, or any of the big names out there. http://www.nexon.net

I recently began to develop an interest in MMORPGs and I've decided to wait around until Everquest 2 comes out at the end of the year. NVidia has released some videos detailing some of the special effects with game footage and it looks really cool.

I suggest checking out some of the NVidia Press events on this page as well as the E3 walkthroughs (Although they are corrupt at about half way through, playable though they just crash the playback, not the comp or video player).

If your looking for something right now... I don't know I've seriously decided to wait but there is a game called Planeshift that is free right now. They plan to keep it free also. Yesterday I tried their newest release but it doesn't seem to have support for my GeForce4 MX420 so I had to run it in software mode and everything ran very slow... on my Athlon XP 1800+... but it's free so I guess I can't complain. Anyways I'll wait :)

Also if it interests you Earth and Beyond has a five day demo, though it is a 1 gig download...
I didn't really care for it, it seemed a bit empty..

Oh, I forgot to tell you about a game called Ragnarok Online. My friends play it and it has recently gone into closed beta (So you need to play, though I think you were looking for something along those line anyways.) It has an anime feel to it. I have yet to play it but I've watched my friends play it every onve in a while when I drop by their house.

Here is the webpage.

Ragnarok Online's installation pissed me off. I downloaded it, sat through the patches, and when it said it was ready to play, (Just like a virus, I might add,) it's installation screen kept popping up, over one another, until it would have sucked up my system resources until my computer had shut itself off. I did it before it could. I wanted to play, but then, I also found out you had to pay. Was it always like that? If so, what does it cost?
