Getting a Life
hmm, we all seem to be lifeless drones in some matter or another, this board has robed us of our lives, and it seems to be where we spend a good amount of time.
I've noticed tho however, sicne I got home, i've been going to even more concerts just as much as I do in Dallas (this is a lot), I've been surfing every day, I've been spending time with my friends, dating, the whole shabang. Tho at the end of the day, I still seem to grab some 15 minutes or what not to contribute to the board. I know in Dallas, I don't have a lot of this stuff to do and I spend a great amount of time here.
What it comes down to, my reason for making this thread, what would it take for you to get a life? And once you got one, would you still come?

hmmmm, wow, an honest to god though provoking thread...
i'd hafta say for me to get a life i'd hafta have a job and a kid, i'm already married and in-between jobs, my wife wants a kid real bad but we're just not finacialy stable, and even if i had a life i'd still visit the forum, it's just one of those things that i look forward too, i used to post in ov alot till it died and then i moved onto my friend's and now this one, i guess it's just something about forums that makes it alot more plearsurable than instant messaging, email, or chatrooms. so yea, i'd deffinatly still visit regularly, even if i never checked email, or did the whole im thing, i'd still be a forum freak...

Yes. We need more of these.buddykiller wrote:hmmmm, wow, an honest to god though provoking thread...
Heh. I was just thinking earlier to day that I don't get much work done on videos or read much or even watch much anime in my free time because most of my free time is spent killing tyime on the internet, with a good chunk of it being on this board and web comics. I spend toooooo much time on the internet, and I am actually thinking about cutting back on the net surfing.
Although, I'll probably never really have a "life", per se. I'm a fucking geek, and while I am proud of it, I don't have much of a life. I have things I am planning, though, to rectify the situation. I am planning to try to get into an excercise regimen, and try to devote more time to reading, because I don't read as much as I used too (and not for as long a period, either, but that is probably just my ADD).
I suppose if I were to choose a quick answer to this thread's question, I'd say introspection. But I would still come. I like this place, despite the cesspoolian depths it has reached at points.

What does it mean when someone says to you to get a life? Does it mean they believe you are wasting your life? Or that the person in front of you just sees it that way? If you don't do exactly what sociaty defines as acceptable behavior for someone of your age, sex, and race, does this mean your life is of less importance than others? If you don't get married, have a kid, a dog, a nice fence surrounding an immaculately trimmed lawn, and bury yourself in a mountain of debt, have you achieved less in life than your neighbor who has managed all these things?
If you realize that your most trusted friends live hundreds of miles away from you and you've never even seen their faces, does that make that friendship any less valid?
So what is it to have a life? Social interaction? But what does that imply? That your life is measured by how many other people know you? Like or dislike you? Love or hate you? Are you considered to have a life as long as you surround yourself with people, even if you don't really know them or neccesarily like them? Does this mean that whether you live your life well or waste it is defined by the people that surround you? So what does this entail?
If you refuse to come out of your room and give other people's life validity by aknowledging their existence, then they will not aknowledge yours. You are only as useful in life as you are useful to others. So what does this drivel boil down to?
It's your life. Do with it what you will. It shouldn't matter to you what other people think about you or the way you live your life. And if it does, you're no longer living for yourself, you're living for them. Be yourself, not what they want you to be. Do what feels right and enjoy it to the fullest. A lot of these people that tell you to get a life don't even know what they're saying. They'll scorn you for being so happy and content with such childish joys such as video games, anime, and AMVs. And once they're done making you doubt your own choices and giving themselves a little ego boost because they actually could. They'll go back to their own meaningless existence, hanging on to dear life to the knowledge that even though they can't seem to summon the joy and abandon they saw in your eyes in front of your computer, at least society has stated that they're right and you're wrong......so there.
Well it's been a while since I've posted a nice long winded, opinionated post. Good thread. Oh, FYI, you will receive such titles as childish, immature, ill based, rebel without a clue, and even, believe it or not, anarchist for following such beliefs as these. But then again, if you truly believe that your life is your own, who gives two flying fucks what they say eh?

I dunno... when I still worked doing analysis work for a jet engine company, I had an event report come across my desk about a coyote that got sucked into a jet engine, so weasels may not be far behind.Jace Tsunami wrote:"Eagles my sore far and high, but a weasel never gets sucked into a jet engine"

[jbone] That, and it should be 'soar', not 'sore'.... [/jbone]
