Wow, it feels really nostalgic making a post again.
Ahem... Dose anyone know the difference between carbon and alkaline batteries? (besides that carbon batteries suck).
I bought a walkman today and I'm a cheap s.o.b. so I went to the dolor store next to Fred Myers and bought a twelve pack of Dynacell (no that's not a typo) batteries, not noticing until later that they were carbon, not alkaline. The bargain batteries ran out of juice in about two minutes, shorter if they had been sitting in the walkman for a while. I was just curious about the little things.

Zinc-Carbon batteries are cheap but as they are discharged the voltage drops which means the won't last long in electrical devices that require a steady voltage. They are ok for flash lights. (by the way put them in those if you still have them since they aren't really dead, they just decreased in voltage.) They are also leakage prone so don't putt them into electronic devices unless you want to risk corroding them with sulfuric acid.
Alkaline batteries last a long time on the shelves, they last 5 to six times longer than Zinc-Carbon batteries, and their the voltage doesn't drop nearly as fast over discharge. (though it is still poor) They also aren't quite as prone to leakage.
