BTW, it needs to be a codec I can put into an AVI, ogg audio, as good as it is, wont work, as well as anything else than cannot be slapped into an AVI.

Ogg can be attached to an AVI just fine. I've got an episode of L-Gaim with ogg audio, it just requires a directshow filter to run properly.

If that's the case, please tell us what to look for, and/or where to find it. :)

my bad, I thought that if you were going to use OGG audio in a vid it would need to be an OGM.

Arguably it is...but I renamed it to .avi and it works fine. The big thing is to get the filters installed.

An ogg media container is very different to an avi - you need particular software to create it and it will not be very compatible with other systems.

I wouldn't recommend ogg media containers for amvs. People complain enough about codecs that aren't mpeg or divx.

Unfortunately, most new audio codecs don't work well with the avi container... so you are kinda screwed.

AVI is old and crap and microsoft aren't willing to change it - they just want to create new containers for their new codecs alone, which sucks. Ogg Media containers, matroska and the like are very good things but the compatibility at the moment is limited.

jbone:
ftp://ftp2.lalternative.org/lalterna/mpc6402rv9.exe

It installs mpc and the needed rm dlls.
Supposedly it's success rate is iffy, you'll have to see if it works for you. I got from this thread on doom9

as far as I am concerned, as long as I can get the vid to work on my comp then I'll use whatever codec or container is best. and as far as distributing vids is concerned, I think that anyone using anything other than MPEG - 2 should tell people EXACTLY was codec they are using, and where to get it.

Hrm... it doesn't actually install any Real codecs, just a hacked WMP6.4 which is able to play RealVideo files.

uhm.. mpc isnt hacked its gabset's own media player which is modeled after wmp 6.4 except with a lot of better features. RealMedia support is included but only works if you have realone installed already, but that pack is supposed to allow mpc to playback real content without having realone installed.
